Could anybody who uses a Merlin RO please advise me on how to "back Wash" it

the merlin needs to be backflushed using a pressurised vessel, the complete kit can be purchased from gapswater, or you could try and find it on express cleaning supplies website.

i was told by ro man you dont back flush merlins

I wouldn't listen to a word of that

1) GE built the merlin with a JG port to connect the backflushing tank into
2) GE recommend connecting the backflushing tank permanently so that the merlin is backflushed every time it is used
3) GE might know slightly more about membranes than RO man
4) We backflush every merlin we sell every 3 months - they maybe should be done more often than that but customers tend to only want to have it done when we change their prefilter.  Believe me it really helps stop the membranes from clogging up.

My Merlin is producing water at a reading of 57 TDS it use to be 27 TDS I have had it for a year and have changed no filters.

Could it need back flushing, prefilters, or all the filters changed.

Hi Kev

The carbon filter on the merlin should be changed every 19,000 litres of water used. In some cases this could be as often as very couple of weeks if you use a lot of water.
The carbon filter is important as it removes the chlorine from the water and it is the chlorine which damages the membranes.

I would change your carbon filter and if you have any extra sediment filters change them also and see how that affects your tds levels, hopefully your membranes are still ok. If that doesn't work give us a shout and we will try to help.
