Purified water
« on: April 02, 2025, 05:28:36 pm »
Evening all, I recently picked up a couple of new customers, I cleaned their windows with my reach and wash system , both houses I went to clean them again after the windows had dried dirty.
Question is why? I have tested my water almost once a week, and after new sediment and carbon filter, with a bottle of resin, the meter is giving  a 000 once water is tested. This is after giving each frame an extra clean and rinse before I cleaned their windows. The first house was all upvc window frames, and I told customer to give me another ring if the windows dried dirty. The second had wooden frames but the paint was lifting on the window sills, the customer texted me to cancell the windows from now on,after I went back today, the patio doors were covered in spotting marks.
I recleaned their windows windows and rinse them several times but any reason why this is happening? I’ve ordered some new membrane filters to start with brand new ones.
Cheers Rich

If your water is 000 then it’s not the water that’s the problem.

Are you scrubbing and rinsing the frame as well as the glass. Be really mindful of where dirty water sits. Anything that can drip down will . Also if they were first cleans it’s best to scrub and rinse everything then go back and do the glass again when the frames have stoped dripping

You haven't said if the two houses are next to each other or not.  The main reason for this happening is most likely down to atmospheric reasons.   Dirt in the air/wind is landing on the rinsed, wet windows, then drying leaving the dirt spots.

Also any Sahara rain by you?

sometimes marks do get left and the sun shows the up, it's all about rinsing them down with enough water, you get to know the customers that check your windows forensically, those customers you have to wash down a bit extra, most customers are happy as long as windows look good in general

South facing pvc windows can be a problem when they are oxidising. You need to scrub the frames and give a good rinse and finally clean the glass. I did a big house last week and it hadn't been cleaned for 3 months. the stuff from the pvc frames ended up on the glass so I had to do the fronts again before I left. I was cleaning the insides aswell so I could see what was happening.

Thats what I started doing, cleaning all the frames, then going to do the glass itself. I think I’ll just make a note and  any new customers ill do all the frames with a good rinse, then so all the glass again with a good rinse too.

First house was  west facing and the second was the same.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, I think I’ll just start doing things the way I did before the accident I had nearly 4 years ago, I know this was never a problem prior to re starting work back in October.

Check the pump strainer to see if it is clogged. Also make sure no resin is seeping into your product water. I have had both things happen to me but not show up on the tds reading.

Will do that, the water filtering is in a separate  tank at home rather than in the van.

I did a first clean the other day, it was in direct sunlight, leaded window with phobic glass and i just knew with the type of frame it was going to spot.

I came back and had a look at it later in the afternoon and yep those  top windows in the sun had spotted so went over the glass again.

9 times out of 10 first cleans are fine but occasionally theres not much you can do but to let it all dry and then go over the glass.

Thats why i always use 000tds i want to give the best chance of a good job first time and if anything isnt right at least i know its not my water.

After many problems with first cleans I now clean them 3 times and I haven't had any problems.

You've just confirmed my suspicions. You're on the wind up.
