CFreezing weather has deadened my van battery
« on: January 12, 2025, 12:20:02 pm »
Need a new Jump Start pack .   Have an old big one from Argos a few years ago.   Not doing its job .   Any recomendations for a  Jumpstarter  to get you going again       My old Streetwise Jumpstart  kit not getting it cranking .  Samething happened a few weeks back .    Breakdown service jumped it with a small powerfull jump starter.      Battery will be fine when charged back up again  wher running to charge itself fully.     Its been idle too long.   Forgot to start it up regularly

The trouble is starting it every now and again actually makes things worse.

Firstly; you probably won't put the charge back you used starting the van as you aren't running the engine long enough.

Secondly; engine wear will be greater as the engine won't get up to normal running temperature.

Thirdly; the battery shouldn't go flat in a few days. Either the battery needs recharging, replacing or a power draw investigated.

Imop, buying a portable jump pack isn't solving the problem, it's masking it.

I find just starting the van and leaving it running idle for 30 mins or so does the trick if im not using it for an extended period of time. I don't believe for one min it prematurely wears the engine at all. I also leave my engine running every working day at lunchtime for 30 mins or so too.

I also fill my water tank to the brim and leave it on my drive for weeks at a time with no ill effects
price higher/work harder!

Yes mine's been stood for a while since start of Xmas so took it for a run on motorway ....28 mile round trip.
Do it once every 3 or 4 weeks as I don't do a lot of mileage over a year....record year last year just about hit 3000 miles between MOT's.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.
