Thanks very much for the input all. I use exceed innovation hose which has little stretch really plus both my poles have same age univalve and same hose so ruled out the hose. I noticed tonight while having a closer look that the shortest pole (the one with the temperamental univalve) if I push the hose towards the brush it will shut flow off.Maybe it needs greased up or even a fresh spring. Seems rubbish longevity given it's not that old at all. 😭Thanks again guys I really appreciate the help.

If there isn't a big enough gap between the end of the hose and the univalve body then it wont close very easily. It's probably worse on hot water as the end of the hose probably expands a little making the gap even smaller. It needs to be a couple of mm.
