There's a place opening up near me called phoenix futures. It's for drying out etc, not sure if it's free or not but by the looks of it, it'll be expensive.

There was quite the kerfuffle, meetings in the village hall watch all the nimbys kicking up a fuss.

Thankfully it's gone ahead, they couldn't block the planning due to there being no change of use - it was previously an old folks home.

Just had a look. All placements at the facility are government funded. That's good.

im not offended by the term crack head..... but behind these addicts is a story. often very sad .
my daughter got into bad company at the age of 14.....  around the time me and her mother seperated.
it started with alcohol and weed and progressed to coke . then in 2022 at the age of 22 she did crack and within months was in serious trouble .
I am talking  about  deaths door trouble .
in october 2022  she asked for help... but there is no help unless you are very lucky or in a good post code....
She agreed to go into private rehab, so I found a place for her and managed to get her in .....

this cost £7000 a month.
but it broke the cycle ....
she has relapsed many times since , but the rehab gave her the tools , and the belief that if she keeps on trying she can get well .

she is doing ok now .
what a horrendous thing to go through....

There's loads of help out there and it's free too but most don't want it...

yes ... how foolish of us... we never thought of going to a doctor, or  a mental health team.
her probation officer .
we didnt try every avenue possible over the years..... we didnt spend hours researching, and we didnt spend years trying everything we could .   we never thought of trying to get her sectioned
we just blindly decided to pay privately.

sorry daz , but you have just shown how little you know.....
of course..... a person needs to want to change.....but there is not much help out there for someone who  is at that level of addiction.

How little you know about me....I've worked with alcoholics and drug addicts for many years and ran an AA meeting in Warrington town centre for 8 years.Maybe it's regional but there is lots of help from sober and clean alcoholics and addicts all across the North west. There's literally hundreds of meetings every week and it's all free help. I do understand you can't help people who don't want to be helped but the help is there.....

I could never afford rehab because I was skint but you can get home detox and medication off the doctor which is what I did...

AA is a fantastic organisation and it saved my life
Just because something works for you Daz does not mean it will work for everyone.

Also people can have very different circumstances, mental health issues, physical issues, triggers etc.

As with many things the type of help available can be a postcode lottery/area dependent. Often the kind of help available on the NHS for mental health issues might be available but in my experience is inadequate/doesn't work

Anyway...

-13 here last night. Still saying+11 on Monday.

Fingers crossed eh lads.

I think it looks like Tuesday here. There's too much compacted ice and snow around for it to thaw enough to make the side roads driveable in my van. I'll make a decision tomorrow evening. Looks like 3c tomorrow and 8c on Monday.

thank you tony
much appreciated.
the long term goal for my daughter is to continue to get better, and one day help others in the same situation.
dazmond contributes some gems to this forum , but sometimes needs to think first before speaking . everyones situation is unique .
my response may have been a little cross , but thats because we tried and exhausted every avenue
she now does NA and AA Meetings that daz referred to .
but she needed to be physically monitored 24 /7 to detox and break the cycle .
the drugs used to sedate her during the detox are great for home detox , but unfortunately she was addicted to those drugs also , so home detox was out of the question.

Well done James for doing your best for your daughter, sounds like things are going in the right direction.

The most important thing in life IMO is not what happens to you but how you deal with it.

Hats off to you James for sharing your story. You should be very proud of your daughter’s determination to get her life back on track. It will no doubt be a difficult journey, full of ups and downs, but with your love and support it is a journey you can conquer together, best wishes to both of you.

Nice one James. Glad she’s found recovery in the rooms of AA/NA. It’s always there once rehab ends.

There is also help for families and friends of alcoholics, I’m sure you know about it, Al-Anon.

Best of luck with it all.

Another day off tomorrow. Go back tuesday. Most of the snow and ice should have melted by then and I can get back to a normal work routine. I've not had this much time off since I torn my ankle ligaments around 14 years ago!

Raring to go now!👍😎

Why would you need to take Monday off? Lows of 2° and highs of 6°, perfect working temperatures. Pretty much all of the side roads are clear and the main roads have been fine throughout.

Makes no difference as I've just moved all my work forward a week so only working 3 days this week(I worked last Monday). It might be clear your end but there's still a fair bit of ice left round here so I'll just leave it until tomorrow.

It's even worse than the last few days Danny! The ice and snow that's left has frozen solid. I had to be very careful walking the dog this morning. Most of it will be gone by tomorrow morning thank God!👍🙂
