Now back to work
« on: December 20, 2024, 01:42:03 pm »
Well things changed for me,  just over 3 years ago when I had the fall and had the left of my skull removed to stop the inside bleeding and then the skull was swelling, this was posted on here over the last couple of years.
I finally got my licence back in September and started working again in October and return back one month later.
I’ve been in the trade altogether 35 years in October just gone.  I had two full weeks in the village where I grew up , but I had a couple more days so it went to 2 weeks and about 2 days into  third week.
Then is  where I started work in another small village  that was  everyone knew everyone, this took a full weeks and then another 2/3 days into the 4 th week.
The last 3 days were spent here and there with enough work  to fill in the last week ready to start the start of the next month at the start of the next month.
Once it was posted on Facebook that I’d had a serious accident, new window cleaners came into the two villages I had worked for over 30 years, telling a lot of my customers I had  a serious accident and they were taking his work,.
As a result when I posted a note through all customers I was coming back to work, the majority of customers told me they already had a new window cleaners came who was “so helpful, doing this and that, so I can’t get you back  now.”
Yes might be helpful and doing all sorts of extra work, but after 30 years of service,I did the same thing, and some jobs weren’t charged for. So what the hell does it make people think of me after I HAD to stop work after the accident , and getting well again?
It feels like’ you stopped working without telling everyone , which is true, I’ve had this after many customers, but after the operation on the bleed inside the head, I couldn’t speak properly , I couldn’t remember all the customers I had or their names.
It feels like costumers have said” you packed in without telling us so we’re using a new window cleaner  now”.
Cheers Rich

Sorry to hear of your accident.
I’m not sure if I’m reading this right?  But if you have been off for over 3 years I don’t think you can blame customers for sticking with the new guy. If it had been a short absence fair enough you would be right to be annoyed, but 3 years is just too long to expect all of the customers to take you back IMO.

You can't expect your customers to stay with you if you ve had 3 years off without notifying them....

Did you fall off your ladders at work?

Sounds like you ve had it very rough over the last few years.

Good luck with your recovery

When you said you couldn't remember what customers you had do you not have a record of them in Cleaner Planner,Aworka,George,or whatever software you use?

Maybe you could knock on their doors and ask do they want you back as not all your customers will have a new window cleaner.
price higher/work harder!

Is that from Peter from East Lothian’s  forum you’re on about?
Dazmomd, I was off after falling from a single  extension  on to a half gravel  and paving flags, I remembers looking at the gutter above next door’s  conservatory and that is the only memory of the job. Apparently the neighbour whose gutter I  was going  to clean out, heard me fall and came out then rang the paramedics as I couldn’t speak properly. They rushed me to the nearest hospital and that’s where I had an urgent operation to stop the bleeding inside my skull. After the operation my head swelled up ,and I was on a nil by mouth for a couple of weeks until the swelling began to get a bit less by the time.

Good luck Richard.

I had a similar accident earlier this year, with very similiar consequences health wise.

I was very fortunate it has to be said.

Regarding my work situation it was annoying as I was about to sell my work after 26 years on the tools, I’ve thought more than once if only I could’ve made it through to the end life would’ve been so much easier as I was about to sell my house, business and emigrate.

I’m just starting to put a new cleaning business together now where I am.  Good luck in whatever happens to your business.

Thanks Slacky, in a different way I’ve been myself  quite a number of times thinking” its not getting any further I want to be, what’s the point in continuing with life?” Several times I thought about calling it a day , it’s only having a wife who has showed me support right the way through the long  way of getting through life, has kept me going .
I certainly enjoy going to work and having a chat with people again as I used to do, just a shame I’m not anywhere near  as busy as I used to be, but new year coming up very soon maybe things will start  improving  for me.
Cheers Rich
