Reeling hose in
« on: December 07, 2024, 10:46:29 am »
what do you guys use to reel hose in when it’s really dirty? I was using microfibre cloths but too much to keep using them. I guess old rags would be another idea. Is there anything you can buy in bulk that’s cheap for this?

I was thinking industrial blue roll and just rip a bit off and bin immediately. Actually that might work

I use old large Unger microfibres for reeling in. Get through a few a week in the winter compared to to the summer.

In the fire service we used a sponge. I buy 50 micro fibre cloths for £35 at Screwfix and wait till I have a few dozen and wash them in my washing machine. Don't worry about cost because they last a few years.

I had to take my washing machine to bits after blocking it all up with crap of my microfibres. Since got banned from using the washing machine.

I now throw them in a carrier bag then when ive got loads i put them on my driveway and blast them with the hose pipe gun. That knocks most of the crap off...then i just rinse them under the out door tap, stick them on the washing line and they are ready to go again.

They are up a pound now but still cheap as chips.

You can build them up and wash them at the supermarket washing machine rather than use your own.

I use microfiber or scrim  for reel hose/pole hose and for mopping up drips in the back of the van.

I also have a tub of industrial antibacterial wipes if I'm unlucky enough to drag the hose through cat/dog muck which happens a few times a year.
price higher/work harder!

I’ve just bought a bag of 10kgs mixed cleaning rags for £20 online. They are all cut to cloth size. I didn’t know this sort of thing existed but it’s a good idea and I can keep my microfibre cloths separate 👍

One of my pet hates that (pardon the pun). It lingers for days. Now you mentioned that I might buy some anti bacterial spray to use on a rag as and when it happens again as like you say it always does occasionally..

Old teatowels from family, friends and neighbours plus my mate has a pub so beer towels as well.......rinse them through in a tub of hot fairy liquid then washing machine......be sure to rinse out washing machine after.....wife once put some whites in not knowing I had washed cloths the day before whilst she was away.......she was definitely not impressed.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

An old tea towel. When it gets really dirty I put it in a bucket, fill the bucket from the waste water that's running from the RO and wash it through. When the water in the bucket is filthy I fill it from the waste again. Rinse it out and sling it in the back of the van.

Rinse and repeat so to speak.

I'm quite lucky I bought two 2kws solar panel systems on both sides of my roof meaning its 4kws in total. Then I bought the best Miele washing machine when I retired because I was Trad at the time which had a 10yr guarantee. So from March to October its on everyday. My mum burns out a washing machine in 3yrs and this is the only one she hasn't managed to break. Its been going for 14yrs now and still works well but I see it has trebled in price.
So, if anyone is thinking of a new washing machine you can get a Miele for £800 which my neighbour got and that was 10yrs ago and his is still going strong. 😉

I got a Zanussi washing machine and it has been going for 29 years, same age as my fridge freezer which is also Zanussi.
