Please find below the crash tested systems that are accepted:
Ionic Systems / Pure2o – Crash tested to FMVSS-208 Certification
Brodex – Crash tested to Mira Standard
Purefreedom – Crash tested to Mira Standard
Streamline – Smartank only Crash tested to Mira Standard
Grippatank – Crash tested to Mira Standard
The Cleaning Warehouse – Crash tested to Mira Standard
We all know Ionics are crash tested as they never shut up about it, one type of tank in one van seems to cover them for every type of tank in every type of van. I don't buy into that one iota.
Brodex , however are crash tested to so they say ....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUOfAe0Y2ls
And Brodex say there's is the safest on the market, so thats even better than Ionics.
If i look at the others they have no info up about their crash tests. I'm certain it would come as news to them that they are crash tested too. Anyone anymore info about the others as i can't seem to find it ?
I understand their 'drive' for a safely secured system, but any crash tested system is only as strong as its 'weakest link'. The weakest link is going to be the use of spreader plates under the van's floor, provided high tensile bolts and nuts are used.
My tank frame is welded up by myself with a Wydale tank. It is bolted down through the chassis at 5 points with spreader plates and 4 points using spreader plates to the floor. My tank frame is a copy with some additional strengthening braces of the original PureFreedom tank frames.
Does this mean I can buy a crash tested frame from Purefreedom, use my own original tank, fit it myself, and are then guaranteed I meet any new insurers requirements? I would expect that insurers would ask for the system to be fitted by a company who supplies the products, ie Purefreedom in my example. Surely they would need proof that the tank has been fitted to crash tested standards.
My insurers are Aviva. When I went with them a number of years ago, I was asked if the tank was professionally fitted. My answer was yes. But would they have a different opinion to me regarding what professional is? They didn't ask me to specify anything else regarding the tank fitment.
As I mentioned before, one of the local lads had a Brodex flat tank fitted by one of their approved suppliers many years ago. The frame was just screwed into the floor of an old Combo van with no spreader plates. The screws had pulled out so the tank frame was just loose. That was professionally fitted.
