What water pump for IBC 1000 L tank
« on: November 30, 2024, 10:06:33 am »
Hi guys. Does anyone have any idea if they have a slimline version? I’m getting a new IBC tank and I remember last time having to cut a bigger hole around the lid to allow the water pump to be able to be put in. I would rather not have to cut and be able to keep the lid on this time. I don’t know if they do a pump that’s much slimmer in diameter?

Ps this is to transfer from IBC tank in garage to tank in van.

Cheers.

I use an external transfer pump. A Clarke CPE120. Had it over 12 years.

Hi Simon,

Sorry to sound clueless but how does that work? I’m assuming it doesn’t get submerged in the tank like a dead weight that falls in?

Currently I use a submersible silver line one that literally goes in tank of water and connects to mains. I then have to use a long bit of hose with a gun at the end and I can then transfer to tank in van.

Could you please talk me through it? Sorry to sound like an idiot!

A sub pump - you will need to make a larger hole in the top - they great for fast filling
Go on the screw fix site - they are around £35 - had mine a good seven years (titan model)
Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

I already have a sub pump in my tank. I was trying to find out if there was a slimline sub pump to avoid having to cut a hole?

No it’s not submerged, it’s external 230v. No need to cut a flap in your ibc.

You connect a 1.5” hose or similar from the ibc tap (you can buy various adapters) to the inlet of the transfer pump. Then connect 1.5” hose to the outlet of your transfer pump. This will be your transfer hose.

Hi Simon,

Thanks. So  basically it’s drawing the water from the bottom of the tank where the tap is and I would just use my existing hose with gun to transfer to tank in van. Is that correct? So the pump would just sit outside the tank on a mains power?

I know there are various adapters like you say-I’ve just bought the pure freedom RO high production system (the one that’s attached to the IBC tank already). Would you have any idea what adapter it would likely be I would need to buy?

Thanks.

Also looking at the specs of your one it produces 61 litres per min. So not as fast as the water sub one I use. Do they tend to pump out water much slower then than sub pumps? Or have i got that wrong?

Yes it just draws the water from the bottom tap &  sits externally. I’ve never had a submersible or any other transfer pump so have nothing to compare to I’m sorry. Just seemed a little neater to me & much faster than when I first started & filled with a 1/2” hose lol.

Re adapters, you’ll just have to know your bsp thread sizes, male & female & have a google if you decide to go that way. Unless you can find a local supplier that is.

Hi Simon. Attached the current connection of my tank. Can you please advise if I was to buy your exact same pump what connection I would need?

No. Mine’s on top the tank.

I can’t upload photos as even screenshotted it says file size too big. What with all the ads too this site has gone to pot.

The easiest way to drop in a submersible pump is by cutting an X in the top of the IBC tank, it more or less closes up after dropping the pump in

Hi Simon,

I really appreciate you sending those pictures through. Sorry to ask more questions but have I got this right…

1….It looks like I need a 1 BSP thread to 2 BSP connections to go from pump to tap on tank?

2….Have you got two pumps on top of the tank? It looks like it?

3… Where is the hose and gun that you draw the water out off to go in van?

4… If the pump is sitting loose on the tank how do you go about drawing water without pulling the pump off the tank?

Sorry if this comes across completely clueless. Thanks for your patience of talking me through this LOL.

Ps can you just spell it out to me what connection I need in terms of where I search? Also where I could buy this connection. It looks like tap on your tank is quite a standard IBC one that looks like mine.

Thanks. I’m not practical at all so a “response for dummies” would be appreciated:)

Ps I’m assuming the water draws quick enough to fill tank in van without waiting ages?

PPS also what type/size of hose do I exactly need based on your setup? Might as well get all the questions out now :)

I’ll do my best to help but i set this up  over 10 years ago & it’s Sunday & I do have a life. Some of it for me was trial & error so you may have to do the same.

Pump is screwed down to plywood on top of tank & is heavy so doesn’t move.

The other pump shown  is my booster pump.

I think (not entirely sure) you’ll need a 2” female to reduce down to 1” & go from there.  I’m sure you can work out which is a male & female thread for obvious reasons!

I use a 1” transfer hose that is clipped along my garage wall.  I have no gun as that involves taking tank lid off & potentially contaminating the water with leaves etc. Instead I have a length of 1” hose coming out of van tank lid & cabled tied to van roof. I leave it coiled in back of van & connect the two up via a 1” male & female threaded connection each time i fill. Make sure you vent the tank lid.

I’ll go take some photos in a minute & painfully upload them!

You’ll have to google the connections. I’m not doing all the leg work. I haven’t got time.

Couplers:
https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/1in-female-coupler/

They also sell transfer hose. You’ll need jubilee clips (pref stainless).

The 1” blanking plug for the male coupler on the coil of hose left in the garage I think I got from a sink trap. Otherwise you’ll have a puddle in the floor.
