Where’s smudger gone ?
« on: November 28, 2024, 10:10:28 pm »
He always been a top poster on here but he’s not posted recently ,is he ok ?
Or has he left the sinking ship ?
Just want to put this out there when I joined this forum in 2008. It was very vibrant loads of people posting,
In the early days for me this forum helped me so much,,guys posting gave me so much help and advice, and I quickly gained the knowledge to build a successful business, but as much as I don’t want to say this I feel this forum is in decline.
Really sorry to say that guys but it’s just my opinion.

A sign of the times. Most prefer to post on FB groups these days (not me). Add to that the decline in the user experience with all these adds and pop ups on here I think it’s inevitable that the numbers of active posters will decline. Shame.

I also think the industry has stalled with developments in wfp- there never seems to be anything new to talk, or get excited about anymore.🤔
We're seemingly stuck with the same old poles and brushes. Definitely think there's still plenty of development left in brushes at least.

I hope someone comes up with a decent water heater that is compatible with an electric van in the future as the diesel heaters will become obsolete once we re all driving electric vehicles(unless of course you want a separate diesel tank in the back of the van)

price higher/work harder!

There is still a place for the CIU Forum. Since coming into the industry in 2011, This is where i dipped the toe so to speak and over time there has been a lot of very good information and knowledge shared which is great. I have learned a lot and continue to learn. There has been suggestions here such as improved reverse polarity protection, separate on/off button, Low battery protection, and Low battery protection over ride,  that became part of the controller development.

Not sure about an electric water heater in an EV. Heating water takes a lot of energy but as they say who knows someone somewhere will no doubt solve that puzzle one day.

As for controllers in 2011 we had perhaps 6 different ones, Now well it a good few more and the journey continues as no doubt will CIU ,members willing to support others and share knowledge

Have a cracking weekend

Still here -  it maybe not be for much longer

I think is forum needs renaming to “handyman corner” as it seems most of the threads revolve around building sheds - porches -  bricklaying etc..

I don’t have anything to contribute to such threads therefore no point in posting

Have a good Christmas everyone ( I’m sure will see Micky boy bragging he got a Santa gig at the local discount store for a couple of shillings an hour 🤪 )

I also want to say a “big thank you” for the advice I’ve had on here too. I met a guy (Marc) from Southend who got me into WFP and showed me the ropes out of the goodness of his heart. I remember smudger offered me a free pump once. The advice I’ve received is excellent. Thank you all x

I think it's just that the internet has matured and only discussing window cleaning has a small window too talk about. I had a nightmare today, my clutch went after first job and I had two full days cleaning. After getting recovery its on my mates ramp and we tackle it first thing tomorrow, The clutch and flywheel have been at his for months but he has been busy and I had it booked in next week.
Everyone I talk too seems to be run off their feet, maybe its to do with the minus weather.

Take time out to rethink this mate. Without you this forum would be nothing. I took a look, and the last time you posted was ten days ago.

Electric vans  ;D  will be retired before they become compulsory thank goodness.

If Govs around the world continue with this madness of forcing manufacturers to build vehicles not many folk want then Luton will be the tip of the iceberg.
Been studying VW and they are closing 4 plants I know of and the German people are getting hung out to dry.
Customer is always king whether we like it of not. No customers means no busy ness and the business folds. Vehicles are depreciating assets so all that happens is they get parked on big carparks until they are sold. Folk that run businesses are actually a people person, how to please our customers. Although we don't realise this until we go through a bad patch.
The one thing I didn't like when working in public sector was working with people that no one wanted to work with but it also was a good experience.

I'm inclined to agree with you.
Diesel will always be the driving fuel of the big lorries as electric won't work.

The very fact that this massive new lithium battery factory/plant recently raved about is on the verge of bankruptcy says a lot about the Government's EV drive that is a failure.

Health is not good - dialysis all ok however I have a massive foot ulcer and infection - fighting to keep it away from the bone or it’s farewell leg 😞

Also have sharko ( Charcot) where the bones in the foot basically fall apart - I have 7 fractures 3 dislocations and free floating bone- will takes years plus to fix - so in a cast - no driving - no walking

Not sure I can take retirement for granted anymore, there's some frightening stuff on line about possible state pension means testing. This isn't just a Labour thing, the Tories were looking at it too. It's obvious that something has to give given we"re living for longer etc but I keep reading references to the Australian system. If we end up adopting something like that then alot of us are in big trouble. When I was made redundant, private pensions were performing so badly, the advice was stick it in an isa,so that what I've done. That would all go against me if it was means tested. The Aussie system also counts your  house as an asset. I could literally lose a projected £24k a year (mine and the wife's state pension) and been working my nads off to provide for us in old age for nothing, in fact worse than nothing, as the £24k is more than I'm putting away. I'm obviously getting way ahead of myself and the devil would be in the detail but it is a distinct possibility that thats where we're heading.
