Me too mines not signwritten. Had it 2 years and never got round to it. Don't really see the point now I've not got the same enthusiasm for the business I used to have so decided not to waste my money. Plus I keep thinking of selling the van it's too big it does my head in.

I had a pair of very large magnetic signs on my van, made up by a customer. He's most upset I don't use them.

Him: Why haven't you got your signs on the van?

Me: They were getting me too much business! (name)

This is true.

Its hard to believe but as a one man band then too much work is worse than too little. Folk think you are winding them up but there is plenty of work and more windies retiring and not many want to take over. I've got to the stage that I can pick and choose who I work for and no hassle with money. I think a signwritten van makes one look more professional so I would always have it because you don't need to accept new work. In the end we run the business, the moment you let the customers running it then it will end up a headache.

People call you when the vans sign written,  my last one was sign written but didn't get it on my current one. Was getting a few funny looks pulling up into streets as people didn't know it was me. Bought a private plate with the name on it so the people I want to know who I am recognise me with that.

Nonsense. No reason for me to have a sign written van when I’m completely full.

My van was signwritten, there was a definite uptick in enquiries when I cleaned it.

I rarely cleaned it.

Is all that dirt on your van declared to your insurance as modification?  🤣🤣

If i was doing jobs where your only dealing with that customer the one time then I would get it sign written again. Cowboy is the first thing that comes to alot of people's minds if they have booked a job and a van pulls up without the company name on it etc.  I've known most of my run over a decade so it doesn't make any difference to them as the trusts already there.

Even without the current van sign written I still get calls from new customers.  If there house isn't in a street I already go to then they get told I don't go in there sorry.

I agree if you are offering more of a one off service then marketting, branding etc becomes more important. But window cleaning runs itself almost and most people don't really care the same when they are only handing over 15 quid as opposed to a 5k landscaping job etc.

Personally I like to have a sign written van. Also I always take on new jobs if it suits me because my round is slightly changing from month to month, year to year. Customers come and go. They move, die or become  too ill to be viable jobs anymore.

Replacing jobs or getting the new owners of a previous job allows for better pricing so my round is constantly evolving and always becoming that little bit more profitable.
price higher/work harder!

I too dread a walk up thinking I CBA these days now I'm flat out

When I upgrade the van, I’m gonna leave it without any sign writing this time. I like the idea of cutting up people in traffic without my business splashed all over the van  ;D

On a serious note, I’m doing more gutter replacement jobs these days through separate website and brand name, so I want the van plain so I can be flexible with the future business names.
