New van setup for franchisee
« on: May 31, 2024, 02:32:04 pm »
One of the franchisee's vans gave up the ghost so I've spent a couple of days kitting out the new van.

Chaos

Happiness, just his powered reel to fit tomorrow

Hi Vin.
Out of curiosity.
Did you transfer the tank across from the old van?  How did you account for your labour costs doing this for a franchisee?
If you don't mind me asking.

The franchisee paid an engineer for the cost of transfer from his old van and he paid for the new B2B charger and the pole tubes, conduit  etc.

My contribution was time, odds and ends of cabling, four million cable ties and creaking knees from getting in and out of the van twenty times an hour.

No charge for my work. Why?

1. Genuinely find it interesting. The franchisees all have different vans so no two installations are the same. I love solving problems.

2. The guys pay me money every week. I consider this part of what they pay for. So far the average life of a van has been about ten years (they buy them about three to five years old or so, so the vans have given up the ghost at maybe 14 years, which I guess is reasonable). A couple of days every ten years doing something I enjoy doesn't seem unfair.

A little addition into the emotional bank account that good franchisors and employers donate.
It's a game of three halves!

I suspect I may have posted about this before as it's core to everything we do.

We don't really care a great deal about our end-customers directly. Our entire focus, everything we ever do, every decision we make  is based on keeping our franchisees happy. They look after the end-customers, we look after them.

I've bored on about this before but above my desk is a sign I paid to have engraved: "Always do what is in the best interests of the franchisees"

I'd dread taking our business to Dragon's Den. I'd have trouble telling them turnover, return on capital employed, etc. I'd just keep replying "You misunderstand, we just keep the franchisees happy. I don't care about the financials. We do OK and everyone's content."

Sorry for the quasi-religious rant.

Brilliant. Wish a few more, not necessarily window cleaning, ran their business like you do.👍
