That is a small engine for a big van.

500l will be fine. All those vans Peugeot/citroen/toyota/vauxhall come with a 1.5/1.6 engine with 1000kg payload or a 2.0 with 1400kg.

Personally I would not want a 1.5 engine pulling a long wheelbase vivaro even without a 500l water tank in it.

1.5hdi will pull 500 ltr no problem. My 1.6 pulls it like there's nothing in the back! I had a 1250 multijet that pulled 400ltr with no issues. My advice- buy the right van regardless of engine size. You're a window cleaner, driving between jobs, it's not a race! If the van is designed to carry 1000kg.... it will. Bigger the engine, bigger the costs.

Yes. My Doblo back in 2006 was a 1250 multijet and I had a 400L on board. (Payload was about 750kg)

In fact for the last 3 months before I bought my current van I occasionally pulled a trailer with an extra 200L!

For me the issue is not whether the engine will pull the load but the strain placed on the engine.

Mines a 1.5 engine too.they are fine for pulling a 500L tank and all your other equipment.these turbo diesel euro 6 engines have come a long way over the years.

Your not gonna be racing around in it...

Not much extra weight in reality though dd, a van is just an empty vessel! A tad more chassis and a bit more (tin like) bodywork.
Scenario-
1.5 with 50k or 2.0 with 100k?  Same price, 1.5 all day long for me.

I've got a few 1.5 vans with 650l tanks and 2 man set ups (big Cox (oh er) reels).

Absolutely no problems whatsoever.

Picking up a new one tomorrow 👍🏻

We've had a 1.5 vivaro too. It's a twin turbo with about 100 brake iirc. Quite nippy.

I find them great. More pressure with less water. For example- previously using 2mm jets I was running the controller at 35, with 1.4mm jets I get the equivalent effect at flow rate 20 on the controller. Now, I obviously understand that the flow rate is physically reduced but you van barely notice, I'm working exactly the same as before but using far less water! Try them. Domestic wise they're superb, might not be as effective on walls of filthy glass- although I've been cleaning some bigger commercial stuff without issue and I'm not slowed down by it either.👍

Just re-read the van details. Personally I would not buy a used van without a full service history.
