CLX 18 VS SLX 18
« on: February 06, 2024, 08:18:08 pm »
Thoughts guys? Now I know everyone and the cats mother is going to say SLX all day long but I’m thinking of buying the CLX as an add on. When you factor in you get a free brush (as I need one anyway) plus free jets (another few quid if bought separately) it seems like a good deal.

I’ve never had the CLX and wanted to know how good they are for everyday domestics. Maybe I’m mad and like the idea of a nice red pole to accompany my other two SLX poles.

The weight difference is only 90 grams. (1080 grams compared to 990 grams with the SLX 18). Currently my everyday pole is the SLX 22 with extension 6 on and weighs 1615 grams.

So even moving down to the CLX with be so much lighter. My current everyday pole will still be in the van for windows maybe the CLX 18 won’t reach.

So now we know the weight  difference isn’t that much between the two (and yes I know the CLX isn’t full carbon fibre), would you say it would more than serve me well?

Thoughts guys :)

I used clx poles for years and they served me well. The problem comes when you've moved onto a better pole ie , nano, extreme etc and then pick up a clx and then realise how inferior it is in comparison. At the end of the day you adjust to whatever your using so if you havn't used one of the more expensive poles i think you'll be fine with it. I use a 18ft nano and there's simply no going back to a clx now but i was perfectly happy with it before i made the change.

Great thanks guys. I just wanted to make sure going from an SLX to a CLX isn’t going to be a huge downgrade. If the weight is much lighter than my current setup it can’t be a bad thing.

Seems to me like the difference isnt that big unless you upgrade to the bigger boys like the extreme/ultimate etc 👍

If an SLX is £100 more than a CLX (I'm pretty sure it's not) I'd think about the work I do with it. I don't kill myself and do about 2,000 cleans a year. So if the pole lasts a year the extra cost is about 5p a clean for a stiffer pole that weighs less.

Hardly worth the saving moving to a CLX IMO.

False economy.

The wear on your body is worth far more than the 50p a day savings.

Infact every sole operator who is doing this everyday of the week should be using a high mod.

As an owner operator you shouldn’t even be considering a CLX.

There’s more to it than just price and weight - they have far more bend  - you really won’t like dropping down in quality
Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

In my opinion your every day pole should be the best lightest pole that you can afford.
I only own one clx pole and that's the clx 4 that I use on bungalows.

Maybe I will consider an extreme then.  I know you guys love your poles. I don’t see how using something with a bit more bend for small domestics is that big a deal if I’m going to be saving over 550 grams of extra weight compared to my current setup.

However maybe I need to trial and error for myself and then maybe I will be back on here with my head between my tail.

Also perhaps I didn’t explain but this was only going to be used in conjunction with my SLX 22 as my everyday pole. It was just having something lighter to do the smaller properties with. The SLX 22 with the extension number 6 on packs a bit of weight. I also have my big SLX with 9 extensions on for high rise work.

I could always take off the extension 6 I guess and just use my current SLX 22. That will save some weight.

It’s just the faff of getting the big pole out for a few houses where the SLX 22 won’t reach such as high sky roofs etc. To be honest I prob don’t even need a new pole. I think I’ve just answered my question.

Really appreciate feedback guys :)

Ps upon reflection the CLX might be a bad idea. I’ve just put new clamps on my current SLX and it’s good as new. I will however consider the Extreme in the future. Sorry for being all over the place 🤣
But very valid comments about buying the best you can afford. You can’t put a price on your back and shoulders etc.

Consider binning the jobs that are higher if you only have a few ?

That's what I did a while ago I probably had half a dozen that I couldn't reach with an extreme 25. So I got rid of them all.

An slx 18 that gets hammered 80 percent of the time with an extreme 25 that gets used occasionally is a great combination of  durability and weight. Because the extreme isn't used that often it should last years rather than months.

It always makes me chuckle but the amount of window cleaners I pass on a weekly basis using a clx is amazing. It's like 80 percent of them do. They have a nice new sign written van, uniformed, nice system and the one thing they decide to scrimp on is the most important bit that's in their hands everyday.

TBH there isn't much price difference, so you might as well get the better pole.

Tried CLX, SLX and extreme.
At18feet I'd go SLX every time.
In fact I bought an SLX 18 just last week

Trade off rigidity for cost savings or put another way, more spent energy to save very little money.

Haha...I see that all the time too Adam! ;D ;D ;D

Window cleaning is just so much easier with  xtreme poles, electric reel and hot water.
price higher/work harder!
