Side effects are exactly that. Side effects. They may affect 1 in 100 people. Guess what that also means.
I was recently put on statins. I had a 'well man check up' after my fit, not overweight, brother had a heart attack. My father had three of them, starting from quite a young age. Everything was fine.
I don't smoke, drink and I exercise frequently, but my GP consulted a consultant and they recommended I be ultra cautious in spite of my score of heart disease being low from a lifestyle point of view; so because of my family history, they suggested a statin.
I didn't want to know about side-effects because I've heard there's a psychosomatic component to them (you might believe you'll get them, so you get them).
So far I'm feeling fine.
