Help with pricing please
« on: October 18, 2023, 12:48:00 pm »
Hello, I am new here.
Me and my partner run a general cleaning business, mostly commercial.
We’ve been asked to clean an internal windows for one of our bigger clients.
Here comes the problem.
We’ve cleaned windows before, but never of this size.
The building is a 1000 square meters big, over two stories and the outer walls are basically glass, a mix of small, big and large windows. Some open, some don’t.
For more than half of them we’d have to use a step ladder and a long pole for the others, some 30% can be done from the ground. Quite difficult access to majority of them, as there are desks sitting close to the windows.
There are 296 windows in total and reckon it will take several hours.
Using the traditional squeegee method…
Please can someone guide me how to price this?! Or what’s the current cost of a internal window cleaning? Because we are out of our “comfort zone” here.
Many thanks!

TBH - you would be better finding a local window cleaner and getting a price - add 20% and submit to your client

it will save you the hassle of doing them, and the hassle of redoing them when the customer complains

Thanks.
I was hoping someone could point me to a right direction regarding for example a price per window?
Or basically how much would any of you charge for cleaning 296 internal windows?
I know it’s difficult to say without seeing the building but I just need a rough estimate to work with. Thanks anyway

Correct - how would you expect people to quote - you’ve only now mentioned the number - what about size, access - desks etc - time you can clean

If you’ve cleaned a window in the past how long did it take you and was the size similar?
Times this  by 298 then you know hours then apply your hourly rate

Not being rude but a skilled window licker would breeze that job and thus quote different from what you may need.

Of course you could do it the old fashioned way like I used to give a price - do the job - learn pricing by practical application

I would charge £2 per internal window . But I have been using a squeegee for 40 plus years . And can knock them out at a reasonable pace

I did say there are 296 in my original post. Also that there are desks close to maybe like 30% of them, some are easily accessible from ground but a number of them will also require a pole.
Thanks

Thank you. I was thinking somewhere between £2 - £3 per window.
I’ve been cleaning internal windows before, but none of this size before.
My main issue is that there are desks close to some of the windows so a rather awkward access and some of them are high above the ground so a pole will have to be used for sure

Fair enough but all the other info is still required - particularly size

they could all be 5ft sq. - thats not a £2 per window jobbie

anyway - looks like your instinct at £2 per window was spot on - good luck and let us know how you get on

Hi guys, quick update as I don’t like “open threads” myself. Have got the contract at the end, charged £3 per window and it took just under 9hours in total.
Thanks for the advice

If you mean 9 'person' hours (for 296 windows @ £3 per window) on the glass in total that sounds like you have done extremely well.

If you mean you and your partner spent 9 hours each for the same sum I would be pretty content too.
It's a game of three halves!

On the other forum she said took two of them just under 9 hours so total time taken aprox 18 hours
