Ive got a new van and think I should waterproof it.

I used Protectacote in the past but not sure it did a great job.

Someone mentioned a product called Raptor in the past, link below.

How many of these would I need to paint a SWB Vauxhall Vivaro?

Does anyone else use a different product that they would recommend?

I dont have the money for it to be done professionally unfortunately.

Also the van is ply-lined. Im guessing that needs to come out first and paint directly onto the metal?

I used protectorate on my new Relay - we have just stripped it out as at 5 years old its getting rust holes in the floor

I have had the bad bits cut out and replaced - all sealed with an industrial gutter sealer - then ply lined then 3mm rubber mat on top
(one piece)

I hav a 11 YO boxer we had "Line X" sprayed into the cargo area - its just like new - no rust - nothing - unfortunately no one applies it in Norfolk and the nearest place (over 3 hours away is now £1000 +

If you take the ply lining out, proteckacote the metal (couple of coats) then put the ply lining back , it will protect the protectacoat so to speak, then get some rubber matting and put on top of the plylining then in theory the protectacote will stay completely in tact and do what its supposed to do with regards to waterproofing.. Cost me about £120 in total for a Vivaro.

From personal experience I wouldn’t use protectacoat it’s rubbish , either take out the plywood and just make sure you mop up any spills or have it done properly using line x or Speedliner , raptor can be applied by yourself at home from what I hear but I don’t have any  experience of it so couldn’t say it’s good or bad

I tried this years ago with a Vito and found that the plywood floor wore through the protectacoat on the ribbing on the metal floor and it wore off very quickly

Needs 5-7 days to properly harden.

That was the main reason I didn't go for Raptor - you need  reasonably large compressor to apply the stuff

In my experience Protectkot isn't as good as what it was 10 years ago. I'm supposed to promote products made in South Africa, but the Protectakote on my current van isn't as good as that on my previous van.
After 4 years I've had to repair areas that have worn through with new Protectakote. Maybe legislation has stopped the use of some chemicals used because of environmental concerns, eg. leaded paint was one example.

I wouldn't use it again.

I've since covered that with Eva drainage matting.

I fiberglassed a 'tub' in my son's van to stop any split water soaking the carpets in the foot-wells of his Berlingo van. That has stood up brilliantly. I ordered non slip top coat which took a long time to cure as I did it in winter, even using double the harder.
