only been wfping for 4-5 months so not yet had the pleasure of working in the winter. do you get any probs with wfp, should i be looking at investing in a hot water wfp, or is there no need?

a little later, i have probs starting early now as it is, self employed, great!!! still out cleaning at 7 when your all in, other cleaners must think im earning millions!!!!!!

when we had that cold spell early in the year, i would head out about 10.30 ish, the sun had come up and it was about 2 degrees, but the water didnt freeze on the ground

We've had no problems that wouldn't have been a problem with trad methods also.

If it's that cold that water freezes on the ground then your squeegie would freeze onto the glass.

Anyone had that? You mop the glass and you squeegie and it just sticks? Then you try it wfp and end up with ice beads on the glass?

If's it's that cold - then stay indoors in the warm because you can't work either way.

I don't know about investing in a hot water WFP system for winter, but things definitely become a bit more difficult with hoses freezing overnight and stuff.

What I did was to bring in anything that would freeze, such as batteries, RO/DI, poles and backpack.

Barrells of pure water didn't freeze much; mabye just a bit on the top; but didn't cause a problem.

I once forgot to bring in the backpack (Okay, I mentioned it again, don't groan, fellow forum members) from outside, and had to pour some boiling water into it to defrost the ice.  It worked, and still works fine.

Some guys here also use road-salt to grit the areas where people might walk, after you've poled the windows above and the water that's fallen has frozen; causing a slip hazzard.

But I found that sprinking some table salt (around 60p a go) did the same job and was handy to carry about.

the main things to watch out for are
1) ro membranes freezing (don't ever let this happen)
2) pump freezing - can ruin the diaphragm
3) hoses freezing
4) water in tank freezing

ps watch where you step, I fell with the pole extended to about 35ft - lucky I managed to stop it going over.

Carry some rock salt it case water freezes up on paths or doors.

I work with less water in the winter as I don't need to worry about it drying too quick.

And because the droplets stay much longer, especially at the bottom of the pane I sometimes run a squeegee along the bottom of the glass on the downstairs windows.

And if you're working after about 2.30pm and the forecast is an overnight frost it's a good idea to take some rock salt for paths or to blade the bottoms if the window or door is going to let water run onto a path.

I prefer working in the winter as i don't really notice the cold.
The only problems i have had in the winter is the pole hose freezing and the brush freezing.
But that only happened a couple of times.

I wouldn't bother myself getting a hot water system
 i would be worried that if it was really cold that i may crack someone's glass with it.
