Smudger is too busy squabbling with Nigel and Splash has not even replied to this thread!😄

I can’t be bothered to reply as when I quote figures that can be achieved ones say it’s Willy waving and not possible but we have been doing it for 24 years so I know it can be done , it’s a case of I don’t need to prove anything to anyone, ime more than happy to try and help ware I can but there isn’t even a pm set up on here so it’s difficult to offer private advice , we do however regularly have ones come out with us to learn how to do the job and see how decent van set ups can save a lot of time increasing turnover quite dramatically.  Lee Pryor is very successful at what he does  I do things very differently and am in a different league to him ,( lower down the food chain ) ime not interested in  expanding any more , I have 3 vans and am subbing work out to 12 others at this time due to the shear volume of work since covid , but our profit margins are very high according to my accountant , let’s be honest here it’s not rocket science to run a window cleaning business anyone with half a brain should be able to do it , running 20 vans isn’t any different to running one , just needs a lot more organisation , and customers the principal is exact he same . I have no business qualifications at all  ime very  practical but no good with paper work but very good at getting work and pricing it well , turnover means nothing it’s profit after all expenses that’s important, or that’s what I have always worked on anyway .

I would also add that talking to someone about what you want to do means nothing you need capital,if you are going down the route of expanding unless you want to reach where you want to be and be retiring age the following week you need cash to put in.
The kind of cash you’ll need is not a small business or bounce back loan it’s house purchasing mortgage sized funds, don’t pay some mug 4-500 notes to tell you to finance another van and have a massive marketing campaign,.that  might have worked 10 or 15 yeses ago but not these days the customers are not as plentiful.

Have you ever employed Stoots I’m not sure you have m8 but those figures don’t add up to anywhere near enough,in this game you can’t guarantee you will work everyday that’s why people on here that do employ are hellbent on working in terrible conditions weather wise coz they have to.
Earn 300 next day you don’t work that previous day gets chopped in half so on and so forth for subsequent days off,
I had 1 month last year that I had to pay a months wages coz he was sick unexpected van repairs, the month before 2k to Grippa lol,the best scenario is stay small get someone working full time and take a part time wage for doing nothing 🤣,

The problem you have mate is you talking about the north as if its the south.

I understand you work in an affluent area charging affluent prices.

I dont think you've managed to grasp the north/south divide. You act as though it doesn't exist which is understandable as if you've always eaten caviar then I guess you assume everyone does lol

25k up here isn't a part time wage, it's a very respectable income. I dont know many people earning that it's enough to get you a reasonable standard of living.

350 a day should be plenty. 150 to cover wages and all costs 200 in pre tax profit.

£25k after tax is take home of £1700 it is an AVG wage up here for a low skilled job but it's not even paying the basics.. rent is on avg £700 pm mortgages now apparently £1k you JUST pay bills on that I think.
My wife at best can work PT once both kids are in school so £25k is nowhere near enough for a family imo.
Maybe I'm unrealistic here but I hoped to build a business an it be able to give me a decent family income as a minimum and to be able to grow to a few vans and have a comfortable living as a business owner but atm it's a job at best.

I'm not sure why you feel responsible to give someone a high earning job.

The job is what it is, its a low skilled anyone can do job. Its a rung above working in a factory on minimum wage.

As you've discovered you simply can't pay someone 40k a year in an area that can't sustain that due to prices.

There's a few big company's round here and they all pay about 12 quid an hour full time. Which to me is about right for the job in this area.

There no point comparing your business to Pryor who works down south.

Living costs are crippling everyone but if someone wants to earn good money then they should be aiming above an employed window cleaner.

I know plenty of people working full time for less than 25k. Either their partner works or they are claiming benefits.

You say it's an average wage. Average is good isn't it lot better than  minimum wage job.

Lee Pryor is Top G no doubt about it but the other lads are very successful at employing too👌

True. But the o/p and Lee's situations are also very different.

Lee was prepared to sacrifice his whole life to focus on his business. From what I remember, he sold his house to invest money in the business and lived with his folks for a while. He was also single and didn't have a family to worry about. He also had the drive to manage and succeed in growing his business. Not many of us have that drive or, dare I say, ability. I haven't.

I very much doubt many would have done what he did; I certainly wouldn't have. My wife did her nut when I purchased an SLX40 back in 2009 when she wanted money to visit Australia. "You didn't need to waste money on a pole you hardly use when I could have put it toward a plane ticket."

When you have a wife and family, everything changes.

When my son joined the business in 2008, we didn't have enough work for the both of us. He purchased an old Peugeot Partner, and I kitted it out with a 500 litre tank. I gave him a full round, which left me with very little, so we canvassed an area where we knew the window cleaner had left.  2 months after son joined the credit crush struck which meant getting new work was more urgent. But we survived. I took us quite a while before I filled my round. It didn't happen 'overnight'. We also lost British Steel on Teesside, but we didn't lose many customers like I envisaged we would.

Times were tight financially. There was enough to buy him an SLX25 as his first pole, but I had to settle for a CLX22 as there wasn't enough money to buy an SLX22 for me.

When you start to employ, your first thought has to be on your employee's welfare. I'm not sure about the op's mindset as he is worried about himself - naturally. His words at the beginning seemed to indicate to me that he would have to come off the tools to run his business. He wrote;  ".................... pay someone £25k to do the work while I focus on canvassing and running things off the tools."
Success is 1% inspiration, 98% perspiration and 2% attention to detail!

The older I get, the better I was ;)

Don’t forget the franchising option. Cheapest way to expand your business.
NWH has never done that either but he is an expert.

15-1700 a month take home is a Nurses wage and is a ridiculous amount to pay someone to do a manual job, they won’t last 3-6 months.
Good luck trying to live on 25k a year.

would you care to tell us more ? which nurses ?
which band ? staff nurse ? ward sister ? matron ? theatre?  head of nursing ?bank nurse ? agency nurse ?
why do you spout poo on things you know little about ?

Lol you silly boy I know a polish male Nurse he takes home 1500 a month he’s got 3 kids he spends 1200 a month on the food bills and the odd car bill, his wife works as a cleaner in a hotel part time and earns half as much.
Matrons if they work independently they can earn more because they have the ability to be able to prescribe etc,Sisters and Nurses the pay difference is minimal after Tax either way it’s 💩 pay.

If he’s spending £300 a week on food I think he may be over eating

I dont understand whats wrong with you , you seem like your just some fantasist.  If he is on that money then he is an auxillary not an RGN , in other words he didn't go to uni and get a degree ............ not knocking his job , he is doing something very worthwhile, unlike you!

I really don't understand the hate towards you Lee at all.it must be just pure jealousy.

Personally I'm very happy with my well paid part time round but if I was thinking of employing I wouldn't hesitate to contact you for advice.
price higher/work harder!
