Where are they coming from?
« on: July 24, 2023, 02:03:45 pm »
Has anyone noticed a lot more shinners around?
There are about 4 regulars + Priors now and again around my way.
Over the last 5 weeks I have seen another 6.
I am not effected but just seem curious to see if anyone else is noticing an influx?

It’s Summertime.

Most will be gone by October - or before.

These shinners have nice vans and gear.
The suppliers must be rubbing there hands in glee.

This unfortunately is partly a result of sites like this explaining in full detail how to set up a window cleaning business, plus YouTube showing inside van set ups and showing exactly how to do the job

Saturated all over the coutry now, theres a new one every week

If people think they will be gone by winter wrong. Its so easy to build a round up these days.

I know 4 window cleaners in my area all worked for the same big company then set up on their own one after the other, all full with work within a couple of years.

It was always going to go this way, its the information age its not just window cleaning but most sevice businesses are the same.

Yep same,

Literally 10’s of them, branded up, good vans, good websites, it’s gone nuts…

Low barrier to entry business, there will always be loads of new startups. I wouldn’t want to be building a round these days…

Haven't you heard - there's a cost of living crisis going on,

window cleaning is seen as easy money, fuelled by the endless posts of only needing to work 3 mornings a week and taking home £800+

Then of course you will always have the idiots who go out buy a van have an expensive system fitted etc... are 20K in the hole and not have a single customer....

Time the above realise they need a good customer base it's too late - the cold winter is here and their earning don't even cover the payments on the equipment

Not that any of you guys need to worry eh!

It’s been like this round my way for a while now.
My town is home to the first spotless water station with that and all the free information it caused a massive influx and has resulted in my town being saturated with window cleaners.

Every one is at it and very few chuck in the towel.

I’m well established and whilst it doesn’t affect me hugely I have noticed inquiries slowed massively in resent years and getting good priced work is getting a lot harder.
The price of some work round my way is dire and I’m not in a poor area.

Keeps us all on our toes I suppose. Gotta make yourself better than the competition. And I don’t necessarily mean on price.

Most don't last.  About a month ago I saw a large window cleaning van, shiny, lovely sign written,  in the garden centre I clean the windows of.

The fella that owned it had a chat with me; he bought it off a local window cleaner who didn't last very long at all.  He wanted to know what I charged the garden centre and I think he wanted me to confirm that it's easy money.  ;D ;D ;D

I doubt the guy who bought it will last long either.

I do agree with this ,but the van set up is the easy bit getting the customers is going to be the hard part for most and this is why the majority don’t succeed

That’s what I found, they very rarely seem to give up.

I also noticed a drop in enquiries, particularly last 3 years.

I'm not sure where the notion "most don't last" comes from.

Everyone seems to say this but where is the evidence.

I'd say barely any fail

It's almost Impossible to fail, spend your time knocking doors, posting leaflets and posting on fb and you can't fail.

If you have capital you can buy a round or pay canvassers. I don't see how you can not succeed.
