Anyone struggle to get going in the mornings?
« on: May 23, 2023, 01:56:18 pm »
My ideal start time is 8.00am which I've been pretty consistent with since having an employee. My lads last week is next week and when I used to work on my own I used to be all over the place with work start times.

So thinking ahead of how I can be more disciplined. I get 8 hours sleep every night so it isn't that I'm not well rested.

Stupid thing is I know once Im out cleaning the thought of it is never as bad as the reality. Its just that feeling when the alarm goes off of not wanting to clean windows.

Anyone experience the same? Advice/tips?

I find it easy but only because I have to take the kids to school.

Otherwise, a bit hopeless.

That's a totally normal feeling when the  alarm goes off.  So probably nothing to do with this industry in particular.   Same with 'Monday morning blues' and the Sunday night feeling.

All goes back to those school days.

I remember asking the same thing when I used to struggle with discipline. Some old bird responded to me by saying, ‘Matt, just put your feet on the floor…’.

She was right even if it wasn’t how I wanted the advice delivered.

Now, I just get up and ignore the committee in the head telling me to stay in bed for 5 more minutes..

I dont have a problem getting out in the morning as I'm up at half 6 to get kids ready for school. So normally by half 7 I'm wide awake and ready to go. I start at 8pm now any later and I'd be pacing about waiting to go out.

Of course it's much easier to get out now it's light on the morning in winter it's hard to drag the aching body out.

That said I've been back on my own now 3 weeks and the novelty is starting to wear off. I still find it hard on my own getting fed up again from the minute I get out I can't wait to get home. I cba with window cleaning most days Its boring on your own and especially now it's getting warmer it's getting harder work of course..

How about a swim or workout before work? You’ve got to get up anyway . I don’t think anybody springs out of bed singing and dancing . At least then you might look forward to the swim or the endorphins after the workout . I realised it’s not everybody’s cup of tea

When you wake up, throw some water on your face, it's the wake up call that get's you wide awake.

Can't face going out then book some work in the evening before so you're committed to turning up to do the work the next morning.

I always feel better having started on my first job before 9am than after.
It's a game of three halves!

you need to start at a time that suits you - like Daz - maybe start at 9 - not everyone is great in the morning

I hate it - but kids need to go to school etc.. so first thing is a bloody hot shower - feel fantastic after this

The key for me is a good breakfast(usually eggs and toast),a cup of tea then a coffee, then a good dump. ;D

I also never get up and rush out of the door.i always get up at least 90 mins before I leave for work.again no alarm is set(the only exception is if I have to get up really early for a plane flight when going on holiday).

Have a great day chaps and enjoy this fantastic weather!!! :D

I love getting up and out early.

When you wake up, just get vertical, once your standing your good to go. Just gotta make up your mind that you’re getting up!

My motivation  to get out early is to get home.

I don't know how people start at 9/10am I'd feel like half the day was gone. Could never get motivated at that time. I'm out the door by between 7:30 and 8 depending  where I'm working.

Sooner you get out sooner you can get home if that's not motivating I dont know what is.

I’m exactly the same, i leave at 7-7:30am. I absolutely love getting nearly half the day done by 9:30am.

Home for midday-1pm.

Yes same with me.  Earlier the better = home and relax in the afternoon sun.

Only issue with the 7.30-8am starts is the stupid heavy traffic that slows you down a bit.  But hey ho love the half days.

First hour is awkward, kids getting ready for school and people half dressed.

Id love to start at 7 but even 8 feels too early for lots of people, i dont really feel comfortable till after 9, somedays its hard to decide where to start trying to pick those that arent in.

Same as me.

I don’t set an alarm but my bodyclock has me awake at 6am or earlier so I’m out the door usually around 7:30am. Would hate to start work at 9-10am everyday, the day would drag on forever.

Brush is on the glass every morning at 7.30 or 7.45 at the latest. All domestic and all done by 1
Wouldn’t want to start/finish later.
Each to their own I suppose

Yep same here, I usually do my first house between 8 and 8:15, you get to know the customers who don’t mind you being too early……I’m usually out playing golf by 3:00.

I like to try and beat the rat run in the mornings or wait until after.
