Numb from pressure washing.
« on: May 18, 2023, 11:33:26 am »
Pressure washing yesterday, numb right leg during the night and then on and off this morning experiencing some tingling and numbness.

trapped nerve from bending and poor posture pressure washing.

Word of caution to those who do pressure washing, keep an eye on the old posture!

I've done very large commercial works, for a very long time, I don't share much on here or anywhere else now, there's other ways of spending downtime.

What I will say is if you are on it get the lances made to fit your height.

Even if you have to pay to have them made, it will eliminate a lot of bad posture and stooping & certainly take away a lot of the upper neck and lower back pain.

There are no standard lances in my set up, all made to suit my height, from 1200mm up to 2.5 metres split flow, every combination.

It doesn't get rid of it completely but it certainly makes it more bearable.

Also footwear, you're not moving like window cleaning, pretty static, shuffling, get decent boots that'll look after the arch of your foot and heels.

Don't know how old you are but look after your back - not looking after mine has certainly come back to bite me!

I’ve actually got a 1200 long double turbo nozzle, but it’s too long really, you find yourself in all kinds of awkward positions with it.

Think I need to bring it down to a meter!

I find the high power combined with the twin turbos mean a long lance isn’t as controllable and it’s quite uncomfortable.

Great advice Rob!

your Double turbo won't help you either - extra weight will take its toll.

if your using a straight lance - get one made with a 15 degree angle for the last 8 inches - gives you a much better angle to clean with better posture ( thats what I have found )

It’s got the little 15 degree angle, it’s just too long me thinks.

I find it really uncomfortable to use. Time to sort out a shorter lance!

Your right, the extra weight of twin turbo does take its toll. It cleans much quicker but perhaps using a single turbo would be better in the long run.

I think so as your twin turbos are only 1/2 the power of 1

Yes, I do miss the power of the single, but I’ve enjoyed the speed of two.

Going to measure the lance tomorrow, on reflection I think it’s even longer than 1200.  A longer Lance adds weight.

Will report back tomorrow.

These double turbos I feel are just a gimmick, I don't have one and it's only me  trying to look at the benefit of one.

So you have a wider cleaning area but the flow rate is cut in half - just cannot see the gain.

The weight issue on a turbo nozzle should be nominal because the downward flow to a large extent does the holding the lance off the ground for you.

Maybe if you split the flow in half you don't get that

On all of mine apart from the split lances, with a turbo nozzle fitted I can put a 2 metre lance into my armpit and just guide it across the surface. that might be more to do with the balance of weight being further extended.

Oh the physics of pressure washing!!

My mate Chris Scott would know.

Interesting. Armpit idea sounds good. Guessing you a have lock on the trigger?

Never locked a pressure washer trigger.

Just got used to bringing the whole trigger unit up just underneath the armpit and holding it there - completely controled by the hand.

Double turbo is quicker, essentially it’s like a having a mini FSC.

As with all things pressure washing, flow rate is key. PSI is less important once you’ve got up to 3000PSI.

I find with the twin turbos you can cover a greater area quicker.

The only disadvantage is the reduced pressure for really REALLY stubborn marks - this is rare however.

I’m more Intrested in being comfortable though, so I’m going back to a shorter lance and single to see if it makes a difference to my back.
