Advice on which Van to buy
« on: April 28, 2023, 05:27:24 pm »
I need a new van due to ULEZ.

I have a Ford Transit currently and was thinking of getting a Transit Custom but been told bad things by four people.

What are the other options?

Needs to be able to carry an 800 litre tank.

Also is there a year of manufacture that means a van is ULEZ compliant?

Cheers

IMO the Custom is the best van out there. I’ve had two and both have been great vans. There was an issue on 19 plate vans because of a batch of dodgy injectors and  I have heard of some issues with the wet belt. To carry an 800 litre tank you would probably need a minimum of a 320, but they will be like hens teeth as the most popular models ordered were280,290,300 and 310.

I have a custom had it since new.Other than injectors which were due to a faulty batch and replaced under warranty I’ve had no problems,
Its been a great van.

As for cheap interior the limited comes with heated seats, heated screen ,Ac,Apple car play and is a comfortable van.You need to spend decent money to get the VW equivalent.

I had one of Grippa tanks LWB Vivaros for a week I thought it was an awful van compared to the custom.

The only transit custom with a wet belt will be the hybrid, and it’s a crap setup.

The diesel customs are great, and by far the best and most reliable engine is the older 2.2, the one I’ve got. No Add Blue nonsense, and absolutely bullet proof.

All in all they are good vans, just not the stupid hybrid. It has the eco boost 3 cylinder engine (wet belt) which is there only to charge the battery’s . It’s an awful system, a stupid design and only there to please the tree huggers.

He said it comes with a huge blanket of tarpaulin to hide a 1000ltr tank that used to have orange juice in it or polish 🤣🤣

All the new transits and rangers have wet belts, 2.0 engine. They suffer from prematurely breaking, or the belts wear over time and the oil coolers get blocked up and cause oil starvation. A friend of mine has had the belt snap on his custom twice.

I bought Vw transporter 5 years ago new and have to say ended up spending money every year after warranty ended and some before as warranty doesnt really seem to be worth paper its written on. Vw not as good as used to be imo.  Had a caddy before that also from new and was brilliant.  Transporter always starts etc, is good on the road and solid etc but went through a phase of bits going all the time.  That said I'm on a good run for the last year with it !

Transporters after about 2014 I think is a different van altogether nothing like the PD 2.5 I have, they reckon the 2.0ltr ones are poope.

If it's for an 800 litre tank, he's going to need a bigger boat.
