Will this be the last clean?
« on: April 28, 2023, 12:36:26 pm »

£22 house. Texted the evening before for access, she forgot.
Over 15 years as a customer, I think she will cancel!

15 years, she did ask 'why' and then agreed to pay it so I'm going for she'll stay with you.

I can appreciate that it's annoying that she forgot to leave the gate open after you texted her about it the day before.  That said though I think it's a bit cheeky of you to charge full price having only done the front.

Very reasonable and fair from you IMHO. Don't think she will cancel

Did she pay? Why did you ask her what she was happy to pay. She's in charge and not you by the sounds of it.

I think she'll bin you off for having the cheek to charge her more than 50% of the price even though she's messed you around.

Let us know the outcome.

He said 'what you you like to pay?' Which I read as asking her what she'd be happy to pay. And she replied 'I'll pay £15.'

But it’s not a cheek to charge more more than 50%. You have to factor in that it costs money to arrive at the property. Then if you miss the backs they are going to be dirtier, costing more water and time. Everyone charges more for 8 weekly opposed to 4 weekly right?

Ive had it a couple of times where ive cleaned say a £12 house, only been able to do the front so charged £8.

Then when ive checked my bank theyve just pad £6  :D

I had one text me saying we will pay half which is fair....

I remember one customer which was £13, he always left the gate locked every time, it got to the point i didnt check it anymore and just cleaned the front. I  always wrote £7 on the slip for the front. He always paid me £6.50 every time

I wouldn't put up with that for a start - they pay what they owe not what they think its should be.

I used to do 50% on the rare occasion this happened but I have 2 customers now that started doing this regular ie.. gate Locke or just the front this time - with the price increase this year for these 2 I added that any front only would now 75% of the normal clean price.

If he was always leaving the gate locked  and underpaying why carry on cleaning  for him ?
He would of been gone off my round after a couple of cleans , sod having people take the pi$$.

Dump. Why do people put up with idiots like that?
It's a game of three halves!

Thank you for the replies.

I sent out a group text to those that owed for more than a week, a payment reminder asking as it was the last banking day of the month, could you please settle your window cleaning account. This customer is normally pretty quick but life gets in the way and she sometimes needs a reminder.
3 out of the 4 that were sent the text have paid, she hasn’t, but I’m sure she will.

Occasionally she forgets the gate, has been charged 2/3 rds and one time paid the full £22. Probably not read the invoice on that occasion.
So I was surprised she questioned the invoice.
Must be getting a bit tight in that household.

I asked her in the text what she wanted to pay to get her to think about it. I would have, within reason accepted what she offered.

After many years of service to her I don’t think she connects her payment being my income. I don’t think many do. So while the £15 covered my costs with some profit, my earnings on that job were down

Perhaps if you start from “today” on the screenshot it may become a little clearer?

I must have misunderstood the first message of 'you ok with it?' 👍 And then skimmed past the what would you like to pay the first time I read it.
I read the texts but should have read them again before replying to you. I apologise  ;).

I didn't start there either  :-[.
The problem is negotiating a price after you've done the work. You generally know better than the customer what the value of your labour is.

My mistake. On reflection I should have crossed out the irrelevant bits on the text screenshot

We used to tolerate this but now we don’t if there is a genuine reason not to do the back like a conservatory being built then fair enough , other than that it’s a dump , as they have agreed to the whole house being done for xx amount ime not prepared to do front for half price if 50% of customers did this our earnings would be half what they should be .
