Staff cleaning conny roofs - what platform
« on: January 17, 2023, 06:13:25 pm »
I have staff that I want to put onto cleaning conny roofs but I don't want them on ladders. What easy up and down platforms do you guys use? I have scaff towers but want something a bit simpler really.

I know you know but if it's employees make sure what ever you use is OK H&S wise and they are trained to use it!
Using planks etc is just an accident waiting to happen!
If a self employed person wants to take risks no problem but employees are another matter!

Google it you can get Ideal ladders for this with suckers attached to the sides and top of the ladder, usually it’s the bloke using it  that’s the sucker though 🤣🤣🤣.
Seriously though you can buy these ladders.

Fine for self employed but is specifically says 'Non-Professional Use'!

I have had a similar one for years and it's been very useful!  ;D

Just spotted they do sell one for pro use: https://www.screwfix.com/p/werner-3-section-5-way-aluminium-combination-ladder-with-platform-2-48m/420kh

I must be missing something here as we just use large step ladders. To be honest I also work from bedroom windows now and encourage my guys todo the same.

As long as you don’t hit the lampshade or take a chunk out of the wallpaper  ;D

Done plenty from the bedroom that over looks the conservatory.

Keep the hose outside the house, moving anything you can hit and it makes the finials a piece of cake.

I do the majority from outside and anything that’s tricky i do from the window.

I use a one metre high hop up,it has steps either side leading to the platform, this works fine for me,if I can't clean all the roof from it ,ie those hard to get at bits ,I either decline the job if I don't fancy it,or advise customer prior to cleaning that I can't reach that awkward bit in the corner and then let them make the decision if they want me to clean
I am sixty two and probably wouldn't survive a fall from any higher

sounds like people are over thinking this - unless of course your hand cleaning everything like Mr Halliday where you need to get on and over the Conny other wise your only 3 maybe 4 rungs up on a ladder to wfp a roof - and thats only pent roofs or those silly victorian types that have a reverse pitch back to the house.

Used correctly the ladder is much more stable - lighter - less hassle than any of these over complicated platform gizmo's

It’s bad enough cleaning conservatories from the ground, there’s zero chance I’d bother with them if it meant carrying and setting up a platform.

Works for me and my guys. Never had an issue and always gives the best results.

I also used to run a conservatory cleaning valet company which competed with the big boys. I have 4 sets of conservatory roof ladders and two full towers. People having roofs converted to tiled roof’s killed that business.

Cleaning from a bedroom window might not seem professional but I’ve been there and done that all over the years.

Hot water on max, out of a window. You can see everything you’ve missed. I used to pop out roof panels to make it easier to clean as well.

Cleaning from a bedroom window and now popping panels out. Wind up 😂
We look at them, they look through them.
