If you’ve got a wife-partner and you’re in this game and she’s say a Solicitor or teacher you are absolutely laughing lol,if you haven’t already marry her.

This is true, but there's also plenty of other businesses/jobs/trades where people earn the kind of money you'd like a partner to earn to have as a cushion once you get to retirement.

I’m 60 with a small pension, less than a days earning.
I will continue to work while I can. Currently 3 days, tues weds and Thursday.
I’ve seen in 23 years of cleaning windows guys retire and show off the new car from the lump sum. Then a month or 2 later his Mrs is asking me to take him with me as he’s getting under her feet!
A month or 2 later he’s got a little job for a couple of days a week.
This is my little job, cleaning windows.
That said it obviously depends on your health. I’m about to have a hip replaced so it’s painful to work currently. I’m on more drugs for pain relief than Daz in his clubbing days of the2000s

I know retirement for me doesn't mean stoping working and tending the vegetable plot 24/7. Most peeps that did that were dead within 5 years.

For me Im planning on moving to Canada, get a small truck and be busy doing odds and sods, 2 - 3 days a week. Keeping half active and enjoying the outdoor life.

I’ll probably retire early at 75 then use my spare time for my hobbies, skateboarding, bungee jumping, pole dancing and muff diving. Should keep me busy for twenty years I reckon.

my plan is to save hard as I have been doing.  I too am 51 and 30 years into the job
back up plan if need be is to downsize ,  I live in a four bed detached and hardly use half the house as it is.
I would like to keep working past state pension age if I am able to, but this would be just 8 to 12 hours a week , just doing the cream.
I would then sell the rest of my work.

If my health fails , then it would be the back up plan.
fortunately, neither me or my partner are materialistic, and both enjoy the simple things in life . so not having flashy cars and expensive holidays wont be missed

Yup. British Columbia.  8)
How do you manage to get allowed in? Canada would certainly appeal to me. BC would be a good area to settle.

I have reached the magic age of 66 and have been retired for 10 months, I was struggling with arthritis in the neck and back problems so needed to retire.  I would seem I have planned quite well, I sold my round to my neighbour who had worked part time with me for 4 years, I have savings which I am living off the interest+ state pension, not had to touch my private pension at all yet, all going well so far

I rented a unit and the guy next door (his unit was much bigger) came over to suss me out, see who I was etc, we got talking.
He fixed gearboxes (that's all he did); all the local garages, large and small, would send him the car, he would take out the gearbox, strip it, fix it and put it back in. He said he charges around £2k per gearbox.
He told me that he retired early, a while back, sold his business, and moved to Spain, he bought a large plot of land as his wife kept horses. One day he was mowing his huge lawn on his ride-on mower and 'had a moment' where he wondered what the hell he was doing with his life! A guy in the local village had a problem with his gearbox so the guy fixed it.
He has now moved back to the UK, started up a new business and fixes gearboxes again, his daughter works with him too.
I guess retirement is different things to different people!

Obviously he wasn’t geared for retirement then.

It's like he put his retirement plans into reverse.
It's a game of three halves!

Well there’s not a lot to stop most Brits going there. Especially if you’re married to a Canadian 😀
