It’s 3°c where Daz and I are working today. Think you all need to stop getting your knickers in a twist. If you don’t want to work you’ll find a way, at 3°c blaming ice is clutching a bit tbh.

So it might be but the ground temp will be less so could still still turn to ice , it’s a personal decision but I am very surprised that the ones who shout the loudest about what they earn  are the ones panicking about taking a few days off due to bad weather I smell a load of bull  😂😂😂

Don't think anyone's panicking, seems like those who don't want to work are looking for excuses to feel better about having time off. Someone will die or get sued  :D it's all a bit far fetched we are just cleaning windows.

I've been sloshing loads of water about today and just finished all my work I've even got a few tips.

This from someone who has virtually admitted if he hit a parked car wouldn't let the owner know  ::)roll

Not at all. My annoyance wasn't that he had let the owner know, more he had let the owner know and expected me to pay for it. He did the right thing in letting them know but wasn't so keen or coughing up to pay for his honesty and basically told the customer sorry nevermind my boss will pay for it give him a call. Cheers for that 👍

tried similar - certainly be good enough to keep the water warm and van frost free - maybe not powerful enough to give to HOT for cleaning - but then again if you can get it to 15 degrees that will see you through most days

That’s part of the  responsibility's of being an employer  Evan the best of staff can have accidents and you just have to budget for that with your profit margins , if they are careless as most on hear seam to be with a  lackadaisical   attitude then it’s time to get rid of them and get better staff , but I admire the lad for being honest and saying what he’s done I would rather a member of staff acted this way than just driving off and then have the police on my doorstep for hit and run

Late start today as it was -5 at 8:00. Started at 10:30 and it was -2 but workable with warm/hot water. I didn’t have any paths directly under windows at any of the properties I cleaned today, generally paths are a couple of feet away from the walls, otherwise everybody would be scraping their knuckles and shoulders off the walls as you walk past, or you would get clobbered by walking into the protruding window sills, down pipes, gas boxes etc, etc. As DJW mentioned earlier, front and back downstairs windows generally have  flowerbeds, grass or decorative stones underneath them. Yes there can be a problem with upstairs windows which are directly above front door steps, but the majority have some sort of door canopies which prevent the water going on the steps.
If you don’t want to/choose not to work in cold conditions fair enough, but there is no need to be hysterical about it.

Genuine question for those that employ and are currently saying it’s too cold to work, (Smudger/Splash+dash/NWH). Are you paying your lads to be sat at home now?

We are out - weather our way has been only -1 at night and +3 during daylight hours - some gutters have been moved as these t be to freeze up

But no - if they can’t work they don’t get paid - there are catch up hours later in the week or Saturday or the following week

I hold the final say on h&s - but the guys can choose not to go out if it’s borderline regarding ice/rain/wind

just an update for you Daz - today we had our hotbox serviced - it was tested outside producing 150 degrees heated water - we immediately swept the excess water away - within 10 minutes the wet concrete was an ice rink.

you take your chance - but I would say if your customer slips on ice created by you then you will be liable

Darran

Yawn    ::)roll.....Same argument every time we get a bit of cold weather...no water froze that I swept away today....that's all that matters

I've never had a single issue in 13 years of wfp....so I'll carry on not worrying about potential liability. ;D

Nigel you bring much derision on yourself with your self-aggrandizing, contradictory and boastful posting.

That being said would posters please refrain from abuse like 'tosser' and 'desperate tits'.

'clueless moron' seems borderline ...  ;D

I’m sure he needs a break until the new year?

How did the water turn to ice when you were servicing your hotbox if the temps have been upto +3°c in the daytime? Not trying to catch you out btw, it’s a genuine question.

No ones panicking it's just your suffering from cabin fever because the weather is worse where you are....

It's perfectly fine where me and Danny work so we crack on as normal.

Just because you and your lads can't work doesn't mean we should all be off work in sympathy! ;D

Yes they are paid this is done beacause  we charge a premium rate for our services so have a very healthy contingency fund , it’s very rare that this happens we are still doing some work starting late and finishing early and only doing work ware our actions won’t leave an ice rink . This weeks takings will be down by several thousand pounds but I would prefer that to us causing ourselves or customers injuries , I don’t think we would keep some of our commercial work if we had turned up at posh hotels and left ice everywhere.

How do you know what the ground is like hours after you have left water on it , if what you are saying is true then you haven’t had very cold nights , ware we are is one of the mildest places in the country most of the time but Monday the muinit water hit the floor it turned to ice and we had a + 2-3 air temperature. It’s the ground temperature that will affect what happens to the water in the floor more than air temperature.

Ground temperatures are totally different to air  temperature  one can be plus’s by several degrees and one can be minus by several degrees .

I’ve always found ground temps directly outside the external house walls are warmer, as the heat from the house escapes by a foot or so.

-2 in the day yesterday and any water
i left lying about  did not freeze instantly because I swept it away after I'd finished the job....of course I just used a cloth on doors so no water was left lying about around doorways...

Why would I worry about a tiny bit of water freezing hours later on a bit of obscure path under a window?when there's ice, snow and frost all over the garden? ::)roll ;D

I can’t believe you’d sack the day off when the air temps are above freezing. Must be bloody soft down your way!

Maybe a bit less splash required.
