I think it's just another risk you take.  You might cause an accident with making ice puddles, you might crash your van, you might get dvt sat watching loose women who knows lol.

Not worth worrying about really is it, chances are you won't cause an accident and if you do good chance you will get away with it. You might not but such is life.

My thoughts exactly....like I've already said some window cleaners will look for excuses not to work!of course if you don't fancy it then have some time off!it's your business!you can do what you want!

But I'll crack on and carry on working.its already 1c here(warmer than yesterday).perfectly workable day.

The key is being prepared and organised which of course I already am!

I have warned customers about the possibility of the water freezing on paths etc today and last week, the vast majority had a look on their face like they  couldn't care less.

Might be a different storey if they slip over and break a leg  or hip might want insurance details 😂😂😂

Never gonna happen....just sweep any standing water away near doors/paths or just scrim them....simple.

Nobody could prove that it was you as there's frost/ice on the ground anyway...

I have seen so many end up with insurance claims over the years whether they are justified or not , you need to cover your back theses days .

I've never heard of one single insurance case of a window cleaner being blamed for a customer slipping on ice...its a myth....

If your diligent in your working practices then you have nothing to worry about

I didn’t say I knew of any window cleaner being sued for slipping on ice ,but I know several that have been for ones tripping  on hose , we live in a world ware many will try it on to get money , look at all the rear end shunts in car accidents deliberately set up , and the innocent driver gets blamed . A friend of mine runs a dive boat and had a sign on the deck saying “ deck slippery when wet “ someone slipped over on it and broke their leg , it went to court and he was found guilty as he recognised there was a danger by the sigh , the judge said if there was no sigh he would have thrown the case out . I feel if we leave water or ice after freezing conditions Evan if we haven’t caused it we could be found liable , so in my opinion it’s not worth the risk especially with employees .

I agree splash if you have employees mate as you don't know for certain if they've left standing water lying around or not

I know I've not left any because I sweep any water away after every job....standard practice in this weather.i also offer to grit if their in but they usually say no.

just an update for you Daz - today we had our hotbox serviced - it was tested outside producing 150 degrees heated water - we immediately swept the excess water away - within 10 minutes the wet concrete was an ice rink.

you take your chance - but I would say if your customer slips on ice created by you then you will be liable

Exactly ware there is blame there’s a claim  we live in a world ware ones are looking for easy money with litigation and leaving ice behind after cleaning windows  will result in someone sooner or later being  taken to court . Also just think of the bad local publicity. It would be on the front page of the local paper , couldn’t care less window cleaner is responsible for  little  frail old granny breaking her hip on ice left behind after cleaning Windows , the window cleaner said I need ti go to work regardless of the conditions to earn more money 😂😂😂

You have to think about their health and safety and they are more likely to get caught making a slippy puddle as it isn't their neck on the line. I learnt this the hard way with an employee I had he left the back doors open and reversed into someone's car, he left a 3mm  mark on the car barely noticeable in the pic he sent me but being the good samritan he went round knocking on doors looking for the owner to tell them. Good deed by him but cost me 300 quid, the little git could have just buggered off and no one would have been any the wiser. No doubt the lad would be the first to admit to Mrs Jones he's responsible for breaking her leg in his slippy puddles.

To be honest ime a bit shocked by the  couldn’t  care less attitude of some on hear with regards to their customers well being , they are paying  our wages and we have a duty of care to them and visitors to their properties , as I said before if someone turned up at my place or elderly family members places  in sub zero temperatures ,spraying water about I would tell them to get lost and dont come back ,they certainly wouldn’t be getting paid either  , if an accident then happened as a result of there negligence I would have no hesitation it taking legal action against them .

If you did worry about it, there might be less chance of you having something to really worry about.
Even if it is just getting away with something that you are liable for.

If you think it's a case of just doing what you fancy, you might want to go easy with the risk assessment advice.

So it might be but the ground temp will be less so could still still turn to ice , it’s a personal decision but I am very surprised that the ones who shout the loudest about what they earn  are the ones panicking about taking a few days off due to bad weather I smell a load of bull  😂😂😂

Never read such rubbish in my life! Most domestic work has flowerbeds under the windows. How much water are you guys sloshing down the paths?
What do you do if there’s a frost forecast? Take the winter off?
Just need a bit of common sense, if the roads are an ice rink stay home.

Exactly,  the waters not left anywhere to cause a risk, we haven't even had a frost here last 2 nights......all my customers have been happy to see me and the tips are rolling in

It’s nothing to do with sloshing water everywhere with me it’s the fact that the side roads and rural roads are to icy and dangerous to travel on with 3/4 of a ton on board,I’ve put the word out to certain people that are working at the jobs to let me know when it’s safe to come.
If I can’t work all week that’s fine I can’t see people wondering why they haven’t had their windows cleaned this week lol,these days nearly all know when we come anyway.

Don't think anyone's panicking, seems like those who don't want to work are looking for excuses to feel better about having time off. Someone will die or get sued  it's all a bit far fetched we are just cleaning windows.

I've been sloshing loads of water about today and just finished all my work I've even got a few tips.
