Well I got in today and one of my customers had left me a £3 tip through my letter box. The first of the year. I was chuffed, from a lovely old bird.

Then I sat down to check my bank account and I see one of my customers has tipped me via my bank account to the tune of 70 squid. I was quite surprised as im sure you can imagine. Anyway I phoned them up, I wanted to check it wasn't a mistake, considering the size of the tip.

He's an American and said in a true Yankee accent 'Well, its something I should've done a long time ago and we recognise you work hard and its not easy for everybody out there right now, as we have a little to spare you're welcome, have a nice Christmas'.

That made my day.

well today was the first time in years I've had to come home from a frozen hose reel,  I was out in the sticks today and it was about  -5  out there compared to +3 when I left home,

done the first 2 jobs okay but on the  3rd job the hose was completely frozen (from pulling it over the frozen grass) so I decided to go home and take a day off.

I'm certainly not going to spend a fortune on a hot water system for the sake of 1 day off in about 4 years!

Oh and BTW emphasise is spelt emphasize lol

You can and do regularly.

You haven't worked this week because your hot water diesel system doesn't cut the mustard when its cold.

I haven’t worked this week because 1 you can’t stand up and 2 I’m not desperate for the money.

We must have been lucky last few years because  I  can't remember the last time I worked in conditions as cold as this week. Wasnt till 11am when water stopped freezing on the glass today I think I must have managed to clean 3 houses before that time starting at half 8 was totally pointless.

Minus 4 working on the outskirts today, very little wind but glass was freezing up half way down the patio doors once the water went on. Wfp the top half the patio doors, plastic scraper to remove the ice on bottom half of glass, and finish  off polling the bottom half. It's a bugger when people ain't heating half their houses, can notice it big time.

No work or Loose Women (the TV programme, that is) for me today.
I've been skivvying for the lads doing some joinery work and it'll be the same for the plumber tomorrow.
It's not been a bad week to write off and get the jobs on the house that have been on hold done.
I might do a couple of days next week.
Balls to it!

How did you defrost the hose reel etc? My whole system has been a block of ice. Absolutely chockablock.

Did you take it all inside oher night?

Mine was defrosted by 10.30 apart from pump to reel which goes up the side and along  under the roof and down other side........took  it off hose reel, put ladder up and climbed up above roof with hose and poured boiling water from kettle down it.....took about ten minutes to clear it then got water flowing..........then I packed it all up and took day off after all that........
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

Mine froze sunday night, i defrosted it monday by putting an oil rad in there on full for about 5 hours .I havent forgot the rad every night since i have it now on a temperature operated plug so it comes on when temp drops to 1 degree.
