Also got a full day in on commercial, was pretty grim first thing though. 🥶🥶

The local tradders were out cleaning my estate at 8:15 this morning, temp was reading -6°c, I bet that was fun.

I spent 17 years on the ladders all year round Danny.climbing on icy roofs to clean a window at times....I really don't know how I did it.... ;D

This job is easy even in this weather WFP....

The lads out working today are the ones who like to choose their own days off, not let a bit of bad weather dictate it for them.

I’ll be taking 11 days off over Xmas to spend with family and friends and I’ll be reasonably content that most of my work is upto date, nothing to do with being desperate whatsoever.

if you say so Nigel, - personally cant knock anyone who is working (certainly self employed) - different for employees - duty of care and all that.

I just am bemused at the polar opposite stances and silly name calling when people hold different views to themselves

Wet hands metal ladders north wind. No thankyou. No fond memories there. 11 years of that.

just an update for you Daz - today we had our hotbox serviced - it was tested outside producing 150 degrees heated water - we immediately swept the excess water away - within 10 minutes the wet concrete was an ice rink.

you take your chance - but I would say if your customer slips on ice created by you then you will be liable

Darran

Yawn    ::)roll.....Same argument every time we get a bit of cold weather...no water froze that I swept away today....that's all that matters

I've never had a single issue in 13 years of wfp....so I'll carry on not worrying about potential liability. ;D

How do you know what the ground is like hours after you have left water on it , if what you are saying is true then you haven’t had very cold nights , ware we are is one of the mildest places in the country most of the time but Monday the muinit water hit the floor it turned to ice and we had a + 2-3 air temperature. It’s the ground temperature that will affect what happens to the water in the floor more than air temperature.

It’s a good job you live in one of the mildest parts of the country with that attitude…..if you were in Scotland you’d never get any work done.

I’m in Scotland and that sums up my week.

-4 has been the hottest it’s got this week really. I’m looking forward to next week, -2 during the day and that is completely workable with hot water.

I’d be really paranoid about leaving ice everywhere,.
It’s minus 8 here right now.  Near black mountains. Sent everyone home for the rest of the week yesterday.

I find minus 2 to freeze on the glass but minus 1 I can just about get away with cold water.

I imagine hot water you can get a way with a couple of degrees more.

That's going off weather apps/my van I don't have a thermometer handy so not an exact science I know.

Who’s out today then? Good luck to those that are.

It’s still -7°c here and only getting as warm as -3°c so I’ll be taking the day off to catch up on admin, bank stuff etc.  I’ve managed 4 days so far this week (worked last Saturday) so that may be it until the thaw over the weekend.

Well, it's been a couple of years or so since I've paid a visit to the forum.   I see nothing has changed  ;D ;D

Here is my take on the freezing weather.

Threshold of -1  to -2 depending on wind chill factor is fine working with cold.

Threshold of  -4 to -5 depending on wind chill factor is fine working with hot.

Anything lower, forget it, not worth the stress, just enjoy a day off.   Nothing you can do about it, so roll with it.
I am sure the usual chest beaters will say they can do it  ;D

At -8 even my frost protection system understandably struggled.     This cold weather can also cause havok with your batteries health.

Social media is going mad with folk taking about todays temperature, from no buses, untreated roads, dangerous paths.  I can only imagine what they would think if they saw me out today.

Put kettle on,  get a blanket out, fire up Netflix or your games console, and relax.   A whole new year of making decent money is just around the corner.

Have a good one guys...  And stop squabbling  ;D ;D

Started at 830am this morning on a commercial job...full 100m off my reel and no problems apart from the odd partial freeze up on the glass...then I cleaned a large house next door....again no problems...

Then as I reeled in I noticed my hose was dead ending....thought it  was a kink in the hose but no....must be an ice blockage and that's with hot water!🤣

I've now nipped home and put heater on in van, early lunch and ill try again in another half hour or so...

It was -9 on my first job but you can guarantee you'll see someone wearing shorts!3 guys walking their kids to school! ::)roll ;D

Ive only got 3 hours work left to do this week...

1 commercial job(ground floor trad)
6 houses(various sizes)

I might have to put screenwash in my bucket for the trad job!(not done that for 12 years!)🤣

Well like most guys, im off again today, we could have done with this weather over the Christmas period!!
Im in Norfolk area (near Sandringham) the temp is now around zero still (-5 overnight), I dont have a hot water system, not needed one really, other than an odd day here and there, so this is a pain, but you cant do much about it.
Im in the stay at home camp, (doing some paperwork and diy this week, accounts fully up to speed!) will work next week (all being well) up until the 23rd/24th to make up some time. Then got the New year ahead, plenty of time to work (overtime if you want it, when lighter nights come in) in the scheme of things, its no big deal. Not worth risking creating icy paths etc. but everyone to there own, no point slagging each other off.
All the best guys, make use of your spare time, you will soon be busy again for sure.
If you reach for the stars and only reach the moon, you will have acheived more than you thought you could.

I agree with Steve, I also am very near Sandringham, been -5 most nights 0 to 1 in the day, not enjoyable for me will catch up next week, and staying in the warm.
