Also I would be leaving myself wide open sending him out this week if he slipped over and broke his leg 🦵 or similar, where there’s blame there’s a claim.

I pay a full month regardless of weather time off due to sickness etc he’s been off for over 2 weeks he will get paid,I haven’t bothered this week due to bad weather and probably will only work Thursday and Friday.
What you need to really think about Cranky Frank is getting a well heeled Mrs because at the end of the day bills need to be paid,I’ve told her don’t get ugly or I’ll be off.
If you haven’t got capital and you employ and you do it correctly it’s going to cost you it has and it is us,van insurance and employer’s liability is an extra 1000 notes on top of what I was paying and that’s just 1 little bill Franky Panky.
Like I said get a rich Mrs but make sure she looks good or it’s pointless some things I won’t do for money 🤣🤣.

Jesus! Can this forum get any worse?

I couldn’t put my employee on what is basically a zero hours contract. It’s unfair i think. He has bills to pay too. For how often we get fully rained off or snowed under down south it’s just not worth it. I would never dream of asking him to make up the time on a Saturday, he may have plans anyway.  I just wouldn’t entertain it. If someone wanted me to do that I’d tell them to stick it. I like to think if you treat employees well then they will treat you well on the whole.

We pay annualised hours - so although they don't get paid for not working they will get paid and those hours are booked against their name - when the summer comes round when they do extra hours (which in fairness is 10 months of the year) we take 2 or 3 hours back each month until the balance is zero.

so its not as brutal or unfair as you may think

Brutal?
I think a lot employees would appreciate not having the responsibilities that go with working with water and driving in freezing conditions.
I would.

You do come across as creating problems in order to not work rather than solving problems in order to work. What if we gave you two weeks a year of doing internal deep/treatment cleans in customers lovely warm conservatories. Would you roll your sleeves up get out and get those done to a high standard rather than stay at home unpaid doing whatever it is you do there?

There's no shame in admitting you don't employ anyone Nigel

Anyone can do that that’s like saying if we earn the money we will pay you 😂 this imo is not employing properly and we decided not to go down the hours route,he gets 35 hours a week paid regardless of hours worked for me due to weather or sickness etc it’s the only way.

What problems am I creating for people not working? I don't know what conditions people are working in for a start. If you can work, work.
I might create problems if someone tells me that an accident is not going to happen or if it does then no one can prove it was the window cleaner. I'm just giving an alternative view.
There's still snow and ice around so I think I'll write this week off because we're having a few jobs done on the house. Doing some of the labour for the tradesmen means it works out cheaper and it gets done quicker. It's been going on too long as it is so losing this week is not a big deal.
I'm sure I could make excuses for working in trying conditions but the tradesmen will make theirs and put us off til after Christmas.

If you have such a rich Mrs why is she making you go out cleaning windows?

We don’t do zero contracts - try reading the post properly

Saturdays are part of the working week they are on a rota - it’s their choice if they wish to make up hours immediately or down the line

Hours are 8 to 3 - so other than the shortest of days they are always in a + for hours as we nearly always work to 4.30 or later n the summer

Got siouxed today, customer thought I was a cowboy!

Bloody cold today with the windchill. Lots of panes froze using warm water and ice formed instantly on the ground.
Minus seven tonight so will hold a bored meeting with staff in the morning.

1/2 degree this morning rising to 2 .1/2 degrees with a bitterly easterly wind rolling off the sea at Maidencombe today, even the thermal socks didn't feel warm today. It was quicker to use a scraper to remove an inch of ice off the cills before wfp  today.

Also got a full day in on commercial, was pretty grim first thing though. 🥶🥶

The local tradders were out cleaning my estate at 8:15 this morning, temp was reading -6°c, I bet that was fun.
