Whether you buy new or lease it's always going to be more economical to buy a cheaper older van and fix it occasionally than it is to pay the depreciation on a new one.

Buy a new van for 30k and lose 15k in 5 years or buy a van for 5k whats the chances of it needing 10k of work in 5 years ? Slim to zero.

It all boils down to want not need. A new vehicle is almost never the better financial choice leased or financed or bought outright. There's not even a reliability argument own 2 x 5k vans if you want to never be off the road as even a new one will need to go into the garage at somepoint.

Despite all that logic I still bought a new one haha

IMO you can't beat getting a new van,esp if you plan on keeping it for 10+ years and having a hot water system fitted.when I was trad it was easy to get an old banger for work, get a roof rack and away I'd go.

It's different with WFP.i want a good solid van that'll last with minimum hassle.i couldn't be bothered taking systems in and out of old vans every few years.

My van is nearly 6 years old now,18k on the clock and still on original brakes and back tyres!serviced every year.loads of life left in it yet.

Also a lot of second hand vans have been battered by previous owners

Get yourself a decent van over a longer time rather than some of the Vauxhall type rubbish they still make,I didn’t but get it over 6-7 whatever years you get a better quality vehicle that’ll last the only reason you can’t buy a Vauxhall Vivaro at the moment is because of the lack of chips or some other part it needs probably a clutch and gearbox lol.

Give yourself a bit of luxury if you can afford it I couldn’t believe how much you’ve got to pay for a Vauxhall van.

It's a work van.....it looks clean and tidy, it gets me from a to  b , I don't need anything else. And ive owned German vehicles in the past all your paying for is the badge imo.

I know but when you’re spending 1000s you may as well go a bit further.

I doubt I'll be leasing again either. I took mine over 5 years rather than the usual 3 for lower monthly outgoings. Unfortunately, covid came up when the 5 years was coming up and I needed to use covid money for the balloon payment. I had no legal way to return it either at the time because of covid restrictions. Due to being very ill for quite a while, I lost a wedge of work. The covid wasn't too terrible, but the after effects stuck around for ages. It's taken a couple of years to feel anything like normal and this will probably be as good as it gets - I can live with this. Anyway, back to the lease. I kept that van afterwards and still have it. I don't own it but only pay a "peppercorn" rent of about £1k once a year. When I sell, I have to pay them a tiny fraction of the sale price. As I took so long off work, the mileage isn't excessive even after 7+ years.  I prefer to own outright though as there can be additional complexities with leasing, especially if you don't have the choice of retaining the vehicle under a cheap rental deal.

Hope your health improves.

Got most of the bill wiped off with "fair wear and tear".

I'll be getting the rest scrubbed too.

What are you replacing them with ? Are you going to buy vans now instead?

I was passing a row of new Transporters with my daughter the other day and I said I’d love one of them, but my daughter said, with your staff!! The point is, if I had a really top earning self employed round (an £80k one is achievable in my area), I’d have a VW as long as my wife had a job and a car too. Lovely vans. I’d drive it everywhere and keep it spotless in the cab.

This is the reason why I won’t be getting another to give to my chap to use day in day out it would break my heart,I’ve already had issues with mess as I find it so disrespectful the way people treat other peoples stuff.
If I was on my own again I’d buy another tomorrow DSG all the bits on it etc, when he gets his own van from me it won’t be 50-60ks worth that’s for sure.
