I doubt I'll be leasing again either. I took mine over 5 years rather than the usual 3 for lower monthly outgoings. Unfortunately, covid came up when the 5 years was coming up and I needed to use covid money for the balloon payment. I had no legal way to return it either at the time because of covid restrictions. Due to being very ill for quite a while, I lost a wedge of work. The covid wasn't too terrible, but the after effects stuck around for ages. It's taken a couple of years to feel anything like normal and this will probably be as good as it gets - I can live with this. Anyway, back to the lease. I kept that van afterwards and still have it. I don't own it but only pay a "peppercorn" rent of about £1k once a year. When I sell, I have to pay them a tiny fraction of the sale price. As I took so long off work, the mileage isn't excessive even after 7+ years. I prefer to own outright though as there can be additional complexities with leasing, especially if you don't have the choice of retaining the vehicle under a cheap rental deal.
