I’m just about to put someone through as full time.
everyone has been part time hrs up until now

So a couple of questions please

If you get a rained off a day do they still get paid or what is best way to deal with it should they use one of their holidays.

If they go in on the Saturday to make up their 5 days is that counted as overtime or is it only overtime after their 40 hrs are complete

Also I’m trying to consider best way to pay them was thinking along the line of about £11 per hr then pay a bonus in cash if they have managed to get all their targets done for the week

So if it got to the Friday and they where say £100 short of their targets for the week it’s up to them if they want to lose the bonus or go out on the sat to make the targets up to keep the bonus

Or should I just pay maybe £12 per hr and no bonus

Iv literally always just worked for myself and never had a job with holiday pay etc so really havnt a clue the proper way of doing it all yet

I’m always amazed when I hear this, do you actually work when it’s one of those really heavy torrential downpours?

I know it’s perfectly logical, and rationally in my mind I know it makes no difference to the clean, but I just can’t imagine doing it.

Do customers ever complain? Do your workers get drenched? Do they moan?

Fair play to you guys who send them out in all weathers, I’m getting so much work I’ll probably be forced to do that too soon.

We have an annualised hours we guarantee 1560 hrs a year - this = 130 hrs per month minimum - they often work over this  - all hours over this are paid following month as overtime - should they have a low month then any hours over from previous month makes up the difference - holidays are then 6 hrs

Never EVER pay any staff cash - any bonus goes onto wage slip and taxed as it should be

My mother was a wages clerk and she got me the books with the scales for doing employees wages, sick pay, national insurance. It was easy enough doing their wages once their tax code was sorted with the scales books but don't pay cash, keep it all on the payroll.

My employee still gets paid if it rains. I might send him to do some fascia cleans or similar. It’s pretty rare it rains all day. I like to think if I look after him he’ll look after me.

we work all weathers but also i pay 30% of the work completed, so either way no!

The only time we don’t work Is if  can get the van off the drive, or if the water is frozen.

 we don’t tend to get extreme weather in  Chester, protected by the Welsh hills apparently

But horizontal rain, high winds,  snow fall, all that is good to go

Costumers don’t say anything mostly, and when someone mentions they usually just laugh with us

Yeah, you left a note forewarning them of the next visit so you're obliged to honour it. If it all works for you then great. But leaving a note with the next clean date and cleaning in ALL weathers is a recipe for disaster IMHO.

Yes, we guarantee 40 hours for full time staff and for part time staff we guarantee the min hours as they are due. So if someone is on 16 hours, we guarantee that.
But we also expect the staff to work with reason in all workable conditions.

I have a set amount that I expect them to achieve each day and I usually put an extra 5-10% on top of that. That way if the weather is horrendous or a problem with van arises there is always a small kitty that has built up to cover their time off. We work in the rain though so I can count on 1 hand how many days are lost due to bad weather annually.

i cleaned in rain  a few times but not looking daft in heavy rain .    the next day the customer says have i cleaned the windows
yes i say
there still mucky he says

i go by the next day  to take a look      they had spotting from the crap that comes down with the rain
Cleaned again with the same water  in van
Next day he says they look great.

rain can  sometimes have particles of in it when landing on the glass while cleaning

We just save up some jobs for rainy days. If it’s minus3C and not rising, spend a day fixing the kit, tidying up unit etc and have an early finish. Always odd jobs that need doing. Don’t think we lose more than two or three days a year.
