Bank Holiday for The Queen's Funeral
« on: September 11, 2022, 07:42:10 pm »
I'll be taking the day off as I don't  think customers will appreciate me turning up. Especially if they're watching it on the telly.

What I don't like is the fact that I'll be losing 20% in pay that week. My road tax is up, £290, MOT due, service due, brake pads and discs all booked in. Some self employed people are just about scraping a living.  Meanwhile people who're employed will be paid full pay. The government should reimburse self employed people on days like this.
We look at them, they look through them.

Will you be paying your staff for the day off? What are your thoughts on this?

They do get paid, but depending on the wording of the contract, it may not necessarily be good news for them.

If their holiday entitlement is "28 days per annum including any bank holidays"

Then yes, they will get that Queen's extra day off and be paid for it, BUT it will simply reduce the number of days they can take at other times of the year when they would choose to.

But if their contract says their holiday entitlement is "20 days holiday per annum plus bank holidays", then they get an additional day holiday that you will have to pay for.

Absolutely makes no difference to me as next week is a 3 day week for me...

I've never worked full time for many years now.the beauty of being self employed! :D

Why would you choose to go to the Maldives in October it’s their monsoon season ?  We go a couple of times a year usually march to may time it’s very hot in may though , very good diving .

My employee’s already used his 28 days including this xmas which is already booked. I was gonna pay him anyway but he’s gonna come in early to do a couple of hours of commercials as a compromise. He’ll be home by 9am i would guess.

If you’re that worried about losing wages just work an extra hour a day some of this week, then same next week.
