maybe a daft question about RO filter
« on: August 01, 2022, 11:56:56 am »
OK so I have a 4040 RO system, works great etc etc. Now what with the dry spell I thought I'd divert the waste water into a but in the back garden to help with the plants etc. So far so good. Out of curiosity I checked the PPM reading on this water and it was only a little higher than the reading going into the RO. I thought that RO waste water would be considerably higher as it was taking all those solids out so would be higher. Am I missing and or doing something wrong or is this normal? Could I in effect fit a second RO filter so as not to waste so much water?

Not sure about the second RO, I think your membrane will suffer more.

As for the waste, that’s about right. Aslong as your pure reading is low enough that is. Otherwise you might need to tweak your ratio a bit, making sure it’s roughly 60/40 waste to pure.

was just thinking of adding my second 4040 ro onto the waste output. I got another one when I purchased some kit. How would adding a second filter damage the first?

You cant fit a 2nd R.O to the waste output of the 1st, because the pressure isn't high enough.

It would damage the second filter I mean, making it not cost effective.

Personally, I wouldn't get too hung up about it. It's good you want to save water but at the end of the day, when severe restrictions are put in place, you wouldn't be able to use your wfp system anyway. What little you save will be as a drop in the ocean when compared to what is lost with leaks.

Using waste water to water the garden is a good idea, but that's as far as I would go.
