Streamlining quoting
« on: July 29, 2022, 06:46:34 am »
Just wondered if anyone had any tips on standardising quoting? I always just try and work out how long a job will take and then x by the hourly rate I want. Of course there are other factors like travel, if you like the job, difficulty etc. I’m just thinking of if there’s any tips people have found over the years, like price per window? I standardise my gutter cleaning in person metre but not got windows down to such a simple calculation

I just look at the job. If I think it will take an hour on the glass, then that’s £120 simples.
I only work part time and have five star holidays these days.

Depends how big a setup it is most use an online quotation form these days because otherwise they’d just be constantly driving round quoting stuff, might work for some jobs but not for all I’ve come unstuck in the past even when I’ve looked on Google earth you can’t beat seeing it in the flesh but I know it’s not always possible.

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

For the bit I do,I just ask customer on phone how many windows..it normally goes along the lines of
1 small one upstairs, and a small downstairs , and couple round the back...any conservatory I ask..
Ooh yes there is a tiny one ...I forgot about that till you asked...£12 I say see you Monday any particular time you would like me🙄🤩

Have a minimum price, that sorts half the jobs out straight away. Whether it’s a front only or a one bedroom bungalow it’s your minimum price.

I always go and look at the property.i only take on work near my other work anyway so it's no hassle....

There are so many factors

Parking?
Access?
Dog muck in garden?
Awkward windows?
Lots of trees around?

These are all factors in whether I take the job on before pricing
price higher/work harder!

If its a non standard property that you are pricing the best tip I can give is go out and look at it.
Have a good look around and make sure you video/photograph every aspect of it.
Do not give your price there and then.  When you are back home sit down and go through the job and price accordingly.  Inform the customer of the price even if it seams high this is the price that you know to be correct.
If you price quickly when you're viewing the job and you go in too low that will be your price from then on.

This.

I only take on work that is very near to other work so it’s very easy to call past and take a look.  I probably turn down 80% of work these days as it’s not suitable or local enough.

I ask what type of house do you have and how many windows....

then ask for address

i then look on google maps/earth and give an estimate

when i get there if im way out i will knock the door and tell them, or if they are not in wont do the clean and message them its going to be more. If the price is there or there abouts i will clean them, honour the quoted price then if it needs to go up say 2 quid i would say next time it will be this price. But 9 times out of 10 the price is accurate enough very rare i would have to leave it.

Waste of time driving out to quote then going back again. Imagine if you ran some ads and and had to spend all day driving all over quoting 20 jobs only for half of them to say no. Much easier to sit on you butt cheeks for a couple of hours and quote all of them online.

i always fit new cleans in with my round order so its usually only a few minutes of my time

I use google maps these days , and sometimes ask for them to send photos .

charging extra for the first clean normally covers me for those rare times that I may have under estimated.
I can then  change the price accordingly.
