Hi guys, does anyone know an easy way to wind a new 100m roll of microbore onto the reel without it taking ages and kinking?
Cheers

Sit it in a bucket (or use the kitchen sink) of very hot water before you start. Then pull it out reasonably straight before you start.
It's a game of three halves!

The secret is not to put it on the floor and wind onto the reel. That way puts one twist of hose for each loop of the new hose - hence the kinking. A system supplier did that to one of our vans and the hose was literally unusable until we stretched the whole thing out on a road and I put an electric drill on it to reverse the twists.

What you need to do is tie one end to your van then walk backwards away holding the hose and unrolling it. Effectively, you need it to come off the supplied reel as though it is on an unrolling reel. Alternatively, tie it to the van then roll the new reel down the road carefully like it's a car tyre (don't let go of it or it'll fall and tangle but you get the gist).

It's hard to do but it's crucial.

I shovel a broom handle through the centre of the new hose coil then hang it between 2 chairs - attach the end of the hose to reel and wind away

As Darran said or just unroll it down the road making sure it doesn’t kink  once you have done it a few times it’s easy .

I’m still using the same minibore hose from when i started in 2014, it’s does look pretty terrible, I’ve swapped ends once (out pole end to reel end) but it’s still going strong!

I've tried most of the obvious methods, with varying degrees of success.

One month I had to put a roll of microbore onto a hose reel,  absolute ball ache and took ages.  Hurt my arms doing it, trying to unwind it a few metres at a time then wind it onto the reel.  I thought there must be a better way to do this.

So, a few months later I had to replace that hose (a JCB had driven over it and split it), plus I had to put some on 2 other reels as well.

I ordered a PIPE DECOILER.  Quite expensive, £125, but oh my goodness, it worked so perfectly.  It's supposed to be for laying underfloor heating pipe.

You simply place the new hose on the top, and then wind onto the new reel.  Effortless, takes about 20 mins, including set up time.  The thing dismantles so it fits in a box on the shelf when not in use.

This is the one I bought

This is how its used:

Highly recommend.

Lol it’s not difficult to put a  roll of hose onto a reel spending that on a piece of equipment that will get used on an odd occasion seams a bit OTT to me if it was every day or week then yes it might be worth having , I think there are a lot of very impractical people on hear if they cannot put a bit of hose on a reel .

Yeah I get what you’re saying, but for me it’s about time.

If it takes 2 hours without a gadget that’s about 2 hours in lost work time.

With a gadget, 20 mins of lost work time.

If I use it twice, it’s paid for itself.

Fair enough , never timed how long it takes me but guessing about half an hour , provided you uncoil it down the road unrolling it I have found works the best generally find it’s quite an easy thing to do .

When you get some new hose go for microbore....its far easier to drag around
