I’ve broken metatarsals in my feet numerous times. No fun. Get well soon Daz, unfortunately you’re getting to that age where things start falling to pieces.

That must of been very painful Danny....how long did it take for you to recover?I guess you had crutches?

I'm feeling very well mate apart from my foot.ive lost 17 lbs in the last 12 weeks and not missed a gym session in over 3 months...in fact I'll be in the gym later.i better do a longer session to make up for not moving much the rest of the day!my diet is on point most of the time too...

I’ve had pressure pain on the sole of my foot right on the ball of my feet a few times. Similar to ‘policeman’s heal’ but not on the heal!

Makes it almost impossible to bare weight on it.

Hopefully a weeks rest will sort you out.

Last time I had it bad, we were off on holiday to Corfu, which did mean rest from work, but also made the first couple of days of the holiday a limping nuisance.

Mines the same apart from the extensor tendons on the top of my foot hurt too

See a good osteopath deep muscle in the traps and deltoids to loosen off the clavicle, the clavicle is the weakest bone in the body and the shoulder is the most complicated joint just hanging from a bar does wonders.

Doctor once told me, it all starts going wrong after you turn 50. I guess that fits in with the fact that life expectancy years ago only used to be in the fifties so we're effectively on borrowed time. ;)
Nigels right in as much as alot of pains stem from problems coming from other parts of the body, the thing about that is that its quite likely the problem in your back that causes the problem in your feet quite possibly started from walking incorrectly in the 1st place so it goes full circle which is why I pretty much permanently wear a decent pair of insoles in all footwear, (mine are designed for planteur). The joys of getting older, dont get me started on needing a pee more often and not ignoring the urge to go when you feel it.

Using wedges in your shoes isn’t the answer though even if it gives you temporary relieve which is rare you need to get to the root of the problem, you wouldn’t believe the relief you’ll get with  the sole of the foot problems once you’ve stretched out the hamstrings properly.
More often than not foot pain comes from tight tendons and the calf and hamstrings are full of them, imagine it like twisting a door handle when it’s stiff once you WD40 or grease the internals and loosen them up the handle or in you’re case the foot is freed up to move how it should.

No never had crutches even though I probably should have done on atleast 2 occasions. A weeks rest and a few weeks taking it as easy as possible has been sufficient for my metatarsal injuries. They have been stress fractures from overdoing the running.

6-8 weeks before I could run again though, that wasn’t good.

Insoles.are more preventative than cure and worth the effort. I've had bouts of planteur which came on when I made the mistake of ditching the insoles as foot appeared ok. Well worth persevering with. Certainly agree that the course of calf exercises are the answer, certainly to PF.

Had the same problems as you with the plantar issues honestly it doesn’t seem right but once the hamstrings are loosened along with calf’s the foot problem will go away, every week a few times I make sure I stretch these muscles to keep it away.

I used to get this years ago when I was trad after a long day on the glass...

Fast forward 15 years and I don't get it at all working wfp doing short days(5 or 6 hours on the glass)...

I do a lot of heavy back work in the gym(seated rows, pull downs and T bar rows)and have done for over 6 years now.i think it helps to have a strong mid/upper back esp for awkward windows with a pole...

My foot feels a bit better today.strangely I've had no swelling  at all.i have got an ankle support bandage on it though.ive basically done nothing for 2 days(apart from 90 mins in the gym on sat afternoon).I've noticed it hurts a lot less when im working out in the gym.i think it's to do with endorphins being released when exercising.

I've been massaging and stretching my foot and calf a few times a day.also been taking ibuprofen which I've now stopped.

I really do find it hard to sit down all day doing nothing.i think I'll fill my van up later and go back to work tomorrow    if it feels even better

Cleaned my van and car inside and out then filled up for tomorrow, soaked 8 xtreme brushes in boiling water to reshape the bristles and sorted a few things out in my storage space...feet up now til the gym at 230pm.

I'm trying to get the balance right between actually using my foot but giving it enough time to rest so it heals...not easy!

Hi dazmond, does soaking the Xtreme brushes in boiling water actually reshape them back to normal,
just asking because Ive never tried it before.

Yes but you need to pull them out every so often and bend them back into shape, once you’ve done that put them in cold for 2 minutes.
