What is it with window cleaning?
« on: April 29, 2022, 07:28:59 pm »
A builder and a customer both tell me their starting up this week.
The builder working at a customers is a bit of a dreamer/bullpooper and I doubt he will start.
The other, my customer is quite happy to throw 20k into a van and system, tell’s me he needs to make ends meet.
It always amazes me how many think this is easy and the answer to all their financial woes. I used to help and advise, now I just agree and let them crack on
Strange isn’t it.

Money to be made in window cleaning.

But they don't realise to make the money takes years to get right and the right type of customers.
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

It is easy to build a round but not so easy to build a great round....most will underestimate how physically demanding it is especially doing loads of first cleans in the heat of summer dealing with spotting and complaints etc starting out.

⬆️ years and years you have to sort so much wheat from chaff in the end you could give farmers advice

But if those 30-40 houses yield an hourly rate of £70-£100 per hour what’s not to like eh, lol😉

I couldn’t think of anything worse than starting up and building a round from scratch these days tbh. So many window cleaners about.

If I were starting out now I very much doubt I’d make it work. Hate door knocking so have never knocked a door in my life. Would really cut if these days if ‘I had to make ends meet’.

Need a tough resilience starting up and to know how much your services are worth compared to others locally in your area. Persistence and determination to succeed is equally as important.

Don't get rich on dreaming, only through stubborn determination to persist in smarter working through repetitive hard work but worth it for those that persist in offering reliability and quality work month after month  who build up their work through word of mouth.

Well if the customer is daft enough to tell me they're basically going in to competition with me...
Yeah sure mate, dead easy money. You'll be on £1k a week in no time, easy work.
Then hang back, wait 12 months and buy their low-mileage, hardly used van and system at a knock down price  ;D
The good thing about science is that it's true whether you believe it or not.

Exactly Soupy this happens every year it warms up it’s probably the only time people even contemplate doing the job, when they realise your not an ice cream van you can’t just pull up and earn money they vanish like farts 💨 in the wind.

No it takes years upon years to get it to the point that each job you do is worth and enjoyable to do they are all priced properly and they pay within hours of being cleaned, anyone can buy a load of work no one wants or stuff that’s been dropped by other cleaners there’s endless amounts of people that want their windows cleaned once and then the messing starts, months or 1-2 years you must be joking it’s an ongoing thing to get it right or as right as it can be.

Seeing a car with ladders on or a new van is like seeing flowers this time of year, before you know it they are gone till the same time next year I wouldn’t even say 1 in 10 stick at it for long I’ve known people go from being busy and just jacking coz the works awful they’ve gone back to stacking shelf’s or security coz it’s easier,it’s all about the jobs that the person has it’s draining cleaning 20-30 houses a day no matter how small.

why is cleaning 20 jobs a day draining?
surely if they are priced right and on your doorstep its a no brainer?
20 houses within a 1 mile radius
15 litres per house
thats just 300 litres of water
only need an 18 ft pole
4 /5 jobs an hour at an easy pace
5 minute drive from home  or 15 minutes at worst
£20 a week fuel
hot water as only need a DI  as area is soft water
50% cash on the day 50%  bank transfer or card

why is it so  draining?

Cleaning 20 or 30 jobs per day is not draining...its no different to cleaning 6 or 7 larger properties a day IMO....I still have enough energy to smash it in the gym 3 times week at 50 years of age...💪
price higher/work harder!

Nigel. Ant get his head around that - he would rather drive 30 miles to pick up that  “plum” job  and then waffle on in a superior tone to the rest of us (like we care)

At the end of the day we all wipe windows clean be it sheltered accommodation for a 95 year old or some football star - tbh - the old girl probably has more respect for her window cleaner than any of Nigel’s high brow customers
