My first day of WFP
« on: July 19, 2006, 08:15:44 pm »
Hottest July day on record & I decide to start WFPing ??? ??? Considering the extreme heat & the fact everything is new to me I think I did fairly well. Not sure how my customers feel though!!
Earnt about a tenner less than I would normally of done & I could feel I was getting quicker & more confident as the day wore on.

Had a bad morning, everything seemed to go wrong. After having returned to the van for the 3rd time to untangle my hose, one of my ex-customers came out (who I blew out about 3 years ago for never wanting to pay me) & started to ask if I could do her windows. Boy did she get a gob full. Bad timing I suppose, but I don't think she knew what hit her.

Not as excited about going out tomorrow as I was today, but not dreading it either, so I suppose that's a fairly good sign.

My flippin arm aches though.

So did mine. It wears off after a couple of days. What pole do you use?

What were your results like? ie: spots.

Was it mainly wodden frames you cleaned today or upvc?

Its one I bought from Gardiners, not sure what make they sell.
It is glass fibre & is long enough to reach my 3 storey work so is probably a bit big 4 domestic work but I was on a tight budget so needed a pole that would do all my work. When the money starts rolling in I will probably buy a smaller one as well.

First couple of houses were a little dodgy I think but afterward fairly happy. One advantage of hot weather is you can see your results fairly quickly.
I also knocked up something last night to add to my normal "Your Windows Were Cleaned Today " tickets explaining that results on first couple of cleans may not be ideal, so please bare with me. My telephone number is on there & as yet have had no calls but there's still time to get moaned at when I collect.

Found a few windows very awkward to do. Upstairs windows that are near a garage, couldn't stand back far enough to get the right angle. Also had to get my ladder off the van a couple of times to do windows on roofs.

Just wondered what all you experienced WFPers do

when i first started paul i used to put some gg4 in the water and i had really good results with it it helped to get the muck off if you have any problems wait until it gets a bit cooler then give it a try i had nearly zero spots on first cleans.
ive just bought my second extender 18ft pole only about £100 but very very light

paul it is like traditional on domestic you need to get into a flow

garages that come out at the front you are just as quick going up ladders

windows above conservatories we do if they are small conservatories if they are large we just leave them and tell the customer that the distance of pole used is too dangerous, if they are small conservatories or you can get them from the side fair enough.I stick to using an 18ft pole and dont change it at all
when I come across one window etc on a roof. You need to seperate straight forward wfp with roof windows to the side and above garages that need say a 30ft pole etc, and these get done with ladders, keep it simple that is the answer, if you start doing above conservatories and trying to get windows above garages that come out at the front or windows above garages at the side, you will spend more time trying to get these windows that cleaning the whole house.remember these windows when you used ladders never got done

so go with the safety aspect of the job and not that you can get windows that
you where not able to get before, I did this at the start and it was a nightmare
changing poles, trying to get it over roofs and conservatories etc-- too much time wasting, this is the solution for run of the mill houses, you did not use different sweegees when you did traditional so why change poles for say one window== as I said keep it simple

FORGET ABOUT SPEED PAUL ON FIRST CLEANS,JUST CONCENTRATE ON DOING A GOOD JOB AND LEARNING THE ROPES.

I HATED MY FIRST MONTH WFP, IT TOOK ME LONGER THEN TRAD W/C DUE TO THE FRAMES BEING SO DIRTY,IT SENT ME ROUND THE BEND BUT BOY O BOY THINGS START LOOKING UP FROM 2ND CLEANS ONWARDS.

i STARTED IN JAN THIS YEAR WFP AFTER 26YRS TRAD AND FOR TWO MONTHS I THOUGHT WHAT HAVE I DONE. NOT ANYMORE I LOVE WFP, YOU EARN MORE MONEY IN LESS TIME AND YOU DONT GET AS TIRED SO YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE IS BETTER IN OTHER AREAS NOT TO MENTION SAFER.

i HAVE COMPARED MY EARNINGS THIS TAX YEAR SO FAR WITH LAST YEAR AND AFTER 16 WEEKS MY EARNINGS ARE 47.4% HIGHER THEN A YEAR AGO BUT I AM WORKING LESS HOURS.

GO WFP GO.

Really great advice Neil.

Half way through our 1st week of WFP we were going absolutely nuts with frustration. Trying to be fast as usual. Its impossible to do it. New way of cleaning windows and every clean like a first one again  :(.  Then I decided that it would just have to take as long as needed,, we slowed ourselves down.. took it easy and in fact were faster within a day!!.

My figures were almost exactly the same as yours percentage wise in the same time as you. YUP.. GO WFP!!!  :)
