The day before Eunice I had two of my customers that day smile and say jocularly "trust you to turn up the day before the storm tomorrow".

They smiled, but they were making a point unsaid - "I really would rather you didn't but I understand". I grinned and said to both of them that I view it as removing 8 weeks worth of dirt each time.

They knew. And I certainly would not have cleaned their windows on the day of Eunice.

When you’re out there actually cleaning the windows you tend to get more of a handle on the customers thoughts on cleaning windows in inclement weather.
If anyone turned up to clean my windows on the day of a storm they would be sent packing.

Like a bricklayer turning up when it’s -3 of you go then thanks I’ve got enough cracks in the brickwork already,that wasn’t general rain we get regularly therefore anyone with any sense wouldn’t work unless they were desperate I wonder what the staff thought 😂

To work yesterday you would have had to and even then very very lucky to not get sacked for the future,no way I wouldn’t have taken money off customers they would have stayed clean for minutes even with no rain.
I would have told me a lot about my window cleaner.

We weren't "sent packing" from any jobs yesterday. I agree with you on one thing though, when you're the owner/cleaner and overthink things, you tend to be more afraid to put prices up, price enough for add ons, clean in the rain and so on. Being unencumbered by a personal relationship, you are freed from all that and just see it as a business.

Its not overthinking ( well by some anyway ) its balancing work/quality and safety

I agree that not being on the glass detaches you from the customers - sometimes thats good, sometimes not - as quality is my top priority we wouldn't clean in 40+ MPH winds

Having said that if you wish too, who am I to say thats wrong ....

I know some on here are very desperate  to go out regardless of weather, circumstances, risks to employees health etc..

It's a business. You've made the odd decision not to work in the rain so that's going to colour your views on anything. I postedthe video of the conditions my guys were working in yesterday & as soon as it turned we stopped. You're just busy defending your own not working in the rain decision and that's fine, but it's a bit much to imply I put my staff at risk.

Anyway, just to show you that not everyone feels as you do. Just received:

Our window clean got cancelled yesterday because of the storm - do you know when you might be able to re-arrange please?

We are having some work done on our windows next Friday (Feb 25) so it would be great if it were possible to have them cleaned before that.

The majority of feeling on here is that the weather conditions were too bad to clean - you did not - thats your call - my point was that when your getting a red weather warning and all you can do is say im sending them out - they can sit in a van - is IMO possibly not the best view to have - and bleat about 3k loss ( like thats the most important thing - and TBH wasn't even worth adding that to a post )

I also said that many weather warnings are over egged - and I think overall for Norfolk it was - we had strong winds and a few really wild gusts - too bad to get a quality window clean done, but dangerous not really - but I cant vouch for other parts of the country

She may well be worried - not about them not being done due to the storm  but about getting them done before the "work" is done on the windows.
