I returned to a job that’s had building work going on for around a year I just said to her again and prior to the work starting I won’t be scratching any windows that are covered in cement or concrete, worse thing you can do is turn up and let the builders see you before they’ve finished the job it gives them the green light to make as much mess as they like.
It’s happened again to me recently the guy had made an awful mess on the lower windows laying a new patio,I asked him to come over and I just told him I won’t be getting any of your mess off m8 I’ve told them to text me when you’ve removed all you’re mess builders these days on the whole are dreadful.

If it was me I'd have a good chat with the builders ask them what they are gonna do about it  if not  consider small claims ..against them wouldent hold out much hope though.

I just refuse to clean them if you clean them this time of the year they may look fine when you’ve done them, spring comes and scratches appear that were there before you cleaned them.
The best thing I’ve found to do is to go round and point out all defects before you even begin to start cleaning or take pictures when there covered in cement etc, these days I wouldn’t do that I would get them to have them cleaned up by the builder.

A good builder won’t leave the job with windows in this kind of state anyway.

I would just tell the customer you arnt going to clean  it  the builders to sort it out they got it on there they can get it off , I recently had a customer that had the house painted the decorators got paint all over the glass and frames they said the window cleaner will get it off ,so the customer phones me telling me it needs removing I said we dint do builders cleans they got the paint on therevits ul tk them to remove it we arnt touching it . Then there was an argument between the house owner and painters they came back and scraped the paint off the glass scratching every pain of glass on the house , it’s now going through the owners house insurance and they are fitting new windows as the frames are scratched , there insurance company are suing the decorators it’s going to be around 20k claim by the time all the work has been completed .

There’s not many times you can get caught by the customer for damage and you shouldn’t be in a position that you will damage items although things can happen, this is an accident waiting to happen you don’t honestly think the builder will hold his hands up after you’ve cleaned them do  you  when you say they were there before you cleaned them,it won’t happen.
