I have a hernia in belly button, just wondered if anyone else has had one and how long it took to recover after op, doc said about 6 weeks before work again

Havnt had one personally but a friend has one at the moment and is looking at 18 months or more before it’ll get sorted on the NHS.

Ironically if you go private there is very little waiting time !!!!!!

I had a hernia op I was back to work just short of a week 6 weeks lol yeah they say that about every operation,I’ve just had a Miniscus repair last month I had a week off for that as well like everything internal it has to heal from the inside but a sensible surgeon will tell you do what you feel you can do and take it steady.
Both mine were done by customers lol 👌

If you can afford to pay  you can have it done straight away if doing it through the NHS it will take 18 months to two years  totally wrong and a clear case of discrimination

My brother had an umbilical hernia at the start of the pandemic, he had to pay to have it done privately and he ended up being off work for more like 8-10 weeks after the operation because it felt uncomfortable and pull quite a bit when working again, he did try to work sooner but couldn’t

cheers for replies, it's not looking great then im looking at atleast 6 weeks by the look of it, the doc has said i can leave it as it's not that big and hopefully wont get any bigger, a bit of gamble, no good options really.

There’s not many operations that you’ll need 6 weeks off for they need to cover thereselves  they recommended 2-4 weeks for a Miniscus trim  I had last month,I was back to work a week later you know how far you can push 6 weeks for a hernia is excessive unless your competing in a strongman contest.

yea 3 to 4 weeks i could do, any longer i would struggle, self employed pros and cons

I had an op in the same area I had 2 they nearly always come in pairs when you get a tear,no way I would have needed any longer than a week 10 days off you just need to take it easy they’ll use mesh if it’s the first one once they’ve stapled it within an inch of its life it’ll be stronger in that area than it would have ever been from birth.
They always say 6 weeks especially if you’re paying for it,they don’t want to have to do it again for nothing especially when you say you’ve followed all the rules lol.

Don’t worry about it m8 I was the same weeks off work etc you won’t need weeks off work,once a week 10 days passes you will feel fine to ease back in to work.

Im 50 now cgh so thinking get sorted now, also just found out i have a second hernia, jesus there like buses

Yeah and you want a good Surgeon because they can go in and on the upper part of the lining they might not see a tear,I had 2 and they  were lower down and hidden and was told that someone without years of experience could have missed them.
Some are visible on the surface the type you can push back in or wear a brace for like the one you have,iguinial- groin hernias are most common and can be so painful if you look down in that area you expect to see blood when it tears initially,lovely.

i had a inguinal hernia  in the groin area.  a few years ago now.      had to advertise for some help.      to get out a bit earlier otherwise i know i would have lost some customers.

let your customers know .  some will wait for you  to heal up .  but will only wait for so long

Let them know anyone who won’t sympathise isn’t worth keeping,i had an iguinial I actually went back after 4 days for a particular job then had a week off and was fine. 6 weeks is over the top a good surgeon would tell you do what you feel you can do but remember you are healing from the inside.
