Just to clarify, for the purposes of a ball park running cost figure...
I've seen various costs quoted for initial purchase price right upto 10k but 5k seems to be the one previously most quoted, so at 5k for a system that will last 6 years, at a fiver a day in fuel with a £500 yearly service based on a 5 day 48 week working year we're looking at £52.77 a week running cost over using a cold water system. Is that a fair assumption? No hidden agenda from me on this just good to have an adult conversation and make informed opinions based on facts rather than what usually happens when Nigels around.
My costs are similar to Daz. Although I work longer hours so my fuel cost is a bit more.
For me, three years in, the benefits far outweigh the cost.
Plus you have to factor in how many days you lose to icy weather? In Scotland it’s always a few, iced up conservatories and veluxs that would snooker me, now I can work no problem. That in effect reduces the cost as your making money where previously you wouldn’t be.
I’d say £8 per day is a good estimate. I don’t notice it though. One price rise or new job picked up per day and that’s it paid for, but the rest of your working life is more comfortable. (Warm hoses, eaiser cleaning)
Then there’s the age old argument…. Are your faster with hot water? If you are and can squeeze in just one extra job per day then essentially the heater and hot water is free.
If mine packed in I’d buy a new one in a heart beat.
