Is there anyway of getting hold of email address to send promotion letters to companies? I think it is easier and hopefully more effective than sending letters.
Is there a web site that lists them all?

Cheers

Hunt around on here . . . http://tinyurl.com/l98cj

I presume you don't want to travel too far,  your best bet is probably the local Chamber of Commerce or Business Gateway. With Business Gateway, you can get your own business advisor - WooHoo
You're a Scottish window-cleaner? Licensed or not, get yourself along to www.slwcn.org right now !

It's illegal to email people without their permission. It's SPAM, and you can be reported for it to your ISP and have your ISP account cancelled.

It's much more professional to send out letters.

I agree with Andy.  A professional letter, gramatically correct on 120 gsm paper, selling your services will be better than a dodgy e-mail received amongst many other e-mails from Viagra sellers or Nigerian 419 scammers will be far better.

But I think a phone call works better, or if you've got the time, call in, in person.

to get around this, some use a free dial up account ( non broadband )

they then have little to go on, and will bin your account, but as its free, who cares

NO NO NO!! Don't canvass commercial like this, its cheap, tacky and the results are about ZERO

OK, this is how you do it.

1) Call into the reception of the company and ask for a compliment slip with the name of the person responsible for organising the window cleaning.
2) Send them a personal letter, short, to the point explaining what your offering.
3) Inform them you will contact them in a few days to see if you may be of assistance.
4) Contact them by telephone, ask if they need you, if no ask if you may call again in 6 months to see if circumstances have changed and diary the next call.

This is professional, approachable and gets results.

Think of it this way, how many emails that suddenly appear in your in box do you contact. Even if you were interested, you would be scared to open the email in case of viruses etc.......
