2022? Predictions
« on: December 29, 2021, 10:41:41 am »
Today's headline:
"Brits face 'cost of living catastrophe': Families will be hit by a year of soaring bills, tax rises, less spending power and the highest inflation for 30 years in 2022 leaving the average household £1,200 WORSE OFF, report warns "
Anyone concerned about cancellations and keeping their head above water?
I know I am. :o

No.

Much of my demographic is older retired folk who largely have their mortgages paid, investments, private or works pensions, some even have second homes/rental properties. The £20 - £40 they pay me every 8 weeks is peanuts.

If interest rates rise then their savings will have higher interest.

On a personal note if my costs at home go up by £1,200 that's £100 per month and I can weather that readily.
It's a game of three halves!

I started my business in the winter of  2010, at the tail end of the financial crisis and the worst winter in decades. I’m really not concerned about 2022.

Window cleaning seems to almost be a recession proof business model. Starting up next year would probably be tough, but also not impossible.

I’m planning a big price increase in 2022, as I’ve got some areas that haven’t had a rise in prices since 2010. (Bad business I know)

I’m now at the point where I could lose about 3 full days work and not notice it. I’m always running a few days behind schedule because of the amount of work I have.

Plus as above, they are “predicting” (which usually is worse than reality,) that families will be £100 a month worse off. Most people don’t think anything of spending £25 on a takeaway meal, so £15 for the window cleaning once a month is pretty low on their priorities.

The ones really effected by this will be those on benefits who are living week to week, and they really aren’t the types of customers I have anyway.

Don’t worry and enjoy the holidays is my advice.

The volume of houses they’re putting up round here, North Hampshire, is mind boggling.

Not the slightest bit worried we have been expanding rapidly year on year more work than we can cope with , turning away 80% + now as just cannot do any more , again most of our clients are retired semi retired with several properties in this country and abroad money isn’t an object if we lost 90% of our work and I went back to working on my own I would still have far more than I need or want . Thousands of houses being built vast majority are very expensive I have no idea how ones are affording them but they are selling off plan and there are big cues waiting to buy them most are now for sale as price guides and you have to offer way above the guide price to get them , things might change but £1200 a year more won’t affect many down hear .

Nostradamus has predicted for 2022, amongst other things that ...
The European union will collapse...
Kim Jon un will die...
The amount of migrants worlwide trying to escape their own countries will increase seven fold because of war..
but buggered if i can see anything about window cleaning, so i'm just gonna crack on   :)

O.K. so there's lots of new builds going up but they tend to be young and mortgaged up to the neck.
I chat to a lot of my retired customers and for the first time I have heard them talk about being on a fixed income and savings being eaten away and pensions not keeping up.
Only time will tell but I think the fallout bill for Covid is going to be paid by all of us in the next year or two.
I'm sure I'll keep my head above water but the cost of everything has sky rocketed so much I doubt any of us will remain unaffected.

Head down and get on with it.
Cannot change economics.
Price rise still going to happen.
