I also use goretex walking shoes, I find boots too big and bulky for my needs, it’s not as if we’re walking over rough terrain or muddy fields. I usually choose between Salomon, Merrell and Mammut, all are decent quality and last me a year.

Just make sure they are waterproof.
I got toenail fungus when I first started WFP, it's horrible,  doctor said to  make sure in future I didn't get my feet wet and work that way for any length of time.

i go for berghaus hiking boots, broke my ankle once when wearing work shoes .
Don't know if the ankle boots would have prevented the fracture but always wore ankle boots after.
once a week i rub dobbin into them to keep them waterproof. when this starts to fail i wear sealskinz socks.
Keep an eye out for deals and you can pick them up for £60 - £70 . and they last about a year . i'm wearing them 7 days a week usually as i do go hiking at the weekend)
i did twist my ankle last week in a customers garden, foot rolled off a cobble stone. so it can happen.

Mammut Men's Alnasca GTX Low Rise Hiking Shoes  -  old model not sure you can find now, but over a year of daily use and still strong, great grip and water proof.

Berghaus walking boots for me, lightweight and waterproof.

Any decent walking boot should last as thats what they are designed for.

Englebert Strauss do good ones. I have ones that are waterproof and without laces (has this turning mechanism to tighten). Only had two pair in 5 years they wear so well. Steel toe capped too.

I've spent  hundreds over the years I've found it's the soles Weare out  then the stitching  I bought a pair of dewalt boots the soal lasted 6months at best so I get cheaper ones  put a load of dubing on .only have to worry about the laces.

I’ve just bought some of these in the Black Friday sale on your recommendation. Will get worn on the worst of winter days. Seem very warm on first impressions.

These? I'd like a pair of these for morning dog walks. They'd be great for work too. Very nice. On my Christmas list.

I went for the arctic short boot. Managed to get them for £75 (now £125) in the Black Friday sale.

I bought some Skechers Greetah (I thought being a specific work trainer, they would last longer than normal Skechers).
At the moment I am very happy with them, in particular, how warm they keep my feet; no idea why.

I use different footwear during the different seasons.

Summer .... Trainers
Autum & Spring .... Waterproof walking shoes
Winter.... Irish setter high boots

Now the setters are £300, 10" high, really warm even on the coldest day and COMPLETELY waterproof. I've been stood in a puddle a cm off the top and my feet were perfectly dry after.

Imo don't compromise on cheap options when it comes to your feet. Get something that does the  job
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go
