Would you dump?
« on: November 25, 2021, 05:53:47 pm »
I have customer thats been with me since 2004.

I just never liked her. Kind of woman that always gets what she wants, kindof bullish. She hasn't ever been rude to me but you know when you just get that feeling that you don't like someone with the vibe they give off.

The job was dangerous and after doing it for a while I said I couldn't do certain windows because of that. I was hoping she'd get someone else but she said just clean what you can. This was after her texting me asking whether I could use a man safe system to do the dangerous ones.

Last time we were there she got the hump with moving her 4x4 off the drive. It's irritated me and I dont want to go back.

Having said that she's never skipped a clean and pays quickly. Also have a customer next door which complicates it. If I bin her off she's bound to be suspicious if I turn up at the neighbour. She left me a positive review on google that I imagine she would swiftly change to negative.

Funny how little things in life get to you.

The choice is yours but if you are busy with work and can manage without it I know what I would do .

I have a few customers who I don't particularly like but I tolerate them because its a business decision(in other words it suits me).....

I would draw the line at cleaning windows that are dangerous to clean though...I'm getting too old for taking risks up ladders
price higher/work harder!

Sometimes they just like to be in control some customers unless it’s gonna pay for a 2 hour meal they can do one 🤣

Its never good when you turn up to a job and it feels like your a inconvenience. Most of the time (for me) if there is a car in the way, unless its totally necessary, i will just crack on even if its awkward.  By the time they find the keys etc. and move it, its seems a big hardship for some? and by asking them to do this you also risk the "oh just leave ours this time" b*llocks, if they can't be ars*d.

If it was me (and i understand to problem) i would be straight with her (or the husband), by telling them that every time you show up to carry the work out, you get the impression they don't  want you there, and explain why.  I would say to them, if you are not happy with me, then we can call it a day if you want to? and see what happens?
You will either walk away by dropping the job, or she will learn to change her attitude?
Good luck m

If they don’t want you they would just tell you like everything it’s all about the money,it’s all about control if the cars in the way everytime you go when you’ve asked just keep leaving that job you’re phone will soon ping.
When you text back just say I text to say I was coming and I couldn’t get on the drive,if they value you next time and every other time they’ll have it moved for you if they don’t ever text or call you to ask where you’ve been they obviously don’t care you then have your answer.

They would probably ring him in a year when they notice the windows are filthy, he's then got to explain to them its going to be a first clean price........          Another problem.

If that happened to me I would then just say I’m sorry I’m only interested in regular work and as I do the neighbours etc I have to join you in at the same time,if you go every other time yours will be slightly more each clean than there’s.
To be honest if they rang me in a year I would then state the terms I wanted to clean on,they’ve had their chance as far as that goes.

I know mate, but blanking them until they call you, your then leading them into other problem (cycle cleaning prices explanation) on top of the other sh*t. If the job can be turned around by fronting them out? then that is the best way imo, and you can then stop thinking about it and move on, one way or the other.
Job done.

i would dump yes, definitely

working for people like this does your head in and make you get pe'd off with work and eventually hating going to work.

you're not their servant and its not worth it.

also, people don't worry about reviews. look at the biggest in the business.. i know a few more, but a certain Mr LP has pretty poor google reviews .. but he's got an amazing business and thousands of loyal customers who are more than happy with the service they get

the guy's in my area mostly have little businesses with amazing google reviews

is the point of your business to get the most positive google reviews, or is it to have a great business that earns you good money and leaves you happy enough to keep it going?

google reviews don't really matter in this business... whatever those internet marketing gurus and google try to convince you

if you cant stomach dumping them put their price right up... hopefully they will cancel, and even if they don't you'll feel like you're winning because you're just charging them extra for their crappy attitude ;D

Let's get this straight.

A customer for 17 years
Always pays on time
Never skips a clean
Is close to other jobs
Allows you to decide that you can't do some of her windows all of a sudden

Definitely get rid, sounds like a nightmare  ;D

Sorry not 2004, meant to put 2014.

Getting lots of new customers at the moment so losing two isn't a big deal.

The fact that I'm thinking about her when her windows ain't due for two weeks means she has to go really.

Agree with the Pryor reviews, he's doing very well despite them.

Having said that I'm gaining a lot that are looking at my reviews on Google, they tell me so.

It always makes me laugh when people say LP is the biggest in the business. There's a 15 van operation in my area and I've heard of plenty more. Most go under the radar.

When I first went WFP Groves were big they did Bighton uni all stuff like that he jumped on the pole for all the really high stuff early and got most of it,I did hear that at some point after that probably 2008 ish he lost lots of work.
It’s an achievement what other people have done in domestic window cleaning as far as turnover goes, but as far as turnover for a business with 15-20 employees goes it’s peanuts. And  without dropping my nuts out of my flies and singing I’m Charlie big balls I personally know someone obviously not window cleaning  who turns over a month what some big window cleaning firms do a year, that % is so important to the monthly number after everything’s been paid but you’ll never get that magical number and % from some people, they are so caught up on the big T because it sounds so much better to their subconscious minds.

I’m sure there are Stoots I thinks there’s a sweet spot with so many vans that you can sit back and earn off the tools close to what you would being small with little help  but there’s a really long road to even get to that point, once past that sweet spot any only small progression could get eaten up with expenses although that next few vans on paper could look like their earning well.
To come off the tools and get paid for doing a fraction or very little can be done with far less vans and staff,% is the key do you want 10% of a million or 100% of 100-000k there’s no difference in that example although some peoples heads would swell in conversations talking about the first number lol.

There's your answer.
I have too many nice customers to put up with crap ones.
