Hope it stays that way for you, but a word of caution, most if not all water authorities will come and fit a new metre once a new customer moves in to a property that is currently rated not metered, its part of a nationwide target set by government years ago to get everyone metered. (I used to work for AW).

Nail crooked pieces of wood across your windows. Put tank traps on the approaches to your garden. Fight them on the beaches. Never surrender! 🤣
It's a game of three halves!

If they need access to your property to fit the meter I think you can choose deny them access. Our water meter is fitted in the footpath at the front of our property so this was not an option for me.

Were these not things you enquired about prior to moving into the property?

Just move in next door to Daz and you'll be fine.

Even better, just move into Daz’s flat, he’s getting married soon and giving up the council flat to move in with the wife😉

Nah, I've always rented and only this year managed to get a mortgage so when the house came up at the right price and location we just grabbed it. Just happy to finally be on the property ladder the water meter was the least of my concerns .

Probably get forced to have one installed anyway by the sounds of it.

They can't force you to have a water meter fitted.
But they entice you by cheaper rates.
When we last moved into a new house the water charges were £400 + per year.
With a meter fitted that came down to £180.
As an aside When you move into a new home and it's got a water meter and the TDS is 285 and you've just moved from a house with TDS about 80 - that's me!

You can be forced to have a water meter fitted. I moved 12  years ago and had to have one installed. Personally I do not find it a big issue.

What's not to like about a water meter...my rates were about £55 then went on meter and down to £23.......then went wfp and it's still only £38
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

Well a few years ago I rented a place that didn't have a water meter and we paid about 40 odd quid a month  family of 4 with window cleaning use.

In the house I'm moving out of, on a meter we are paying £150 a month. I use about 5000l a week from the tap for window cleaning. (Approx 2500l of pure a week)

I can only.assume you don't don't do much work or re use your bath water for cooking   ;D

I am on a water meter , family of 3
I am DI only and pay around £65 a month , although looking at my last quarterly bill, I think it may be adjusted to about £75 a momnth soon.
I average about 400 ltres a day.
so if I was RO, I would expect to be paying around £150 a month.
I spend about £500 to £600 a year on resin.  my tap tds is between 50 and 80

In my last property which  I sold  12 years ago I was paying £29 a month and I was RO only
If I was still there , I expect it would now be £45 a month

5000 ltr s = £15 p/w   So £65 a month - sounds like your very wasteful with water if the balance is £85 for the month

That's 1000 ltr s in the house per day!

You're with Yorks water like me.....as Smudger said it's near enough £3 per 1000 litres......you're using 50000 litres a month at that price......28000 of that for personal use, that's a lot.
I use around 6k/7k per month work wise but none of that is waste.......TDS is averaging 80 round here.

Don’t forget about the standing charge. It’s usually a fair wack.

Also he’s defo not using 28,000 you mean 2,800. I don’t think my entire street uses 28,000 in a week!

It's £2.96 round here including the standing charge for a 1000 litres so at £150 per month he's using 50,000 litres....work is 5,000 litres a week so around 22,000 litres.........28,000 litres usage.

I don’t understand how anyone can use 28,000l of water in a month, excluding  pure water. That’s insane, almost impossible.

Something doesn’t add up…

Sounds like they might have a leak between the meter and the house .
